Abstract/Notes: Madame Montessori, founder of the much discussed Montessori system of child education, addressed a large audience in the ball room of the Hotel Oakland yesterday morning. Later in the day the distinguished woman presided at a 'round table' discussion of education problems as she has met and disposed of them. Dr. Montessori's 'class' in the afternoon was an invited one. Dr. David Starr Jordan presided at both the morning and afternoon meetings, and Dr. Montessori's replies to the questions put to her were interpreted by Dr. Mariana Bertola of San Francisco. P. P. Claxton, United States Commissioner of Education, delivered the address of welcome, and the possibilities and opportunities of the Montessori work for American children were discussed by E. L. Hardy of the San Diego Normal school. Arthur H. Chamberlain of San Francisco spoke on the future of the Montessori work in America. Madame Montessori leaves immediately for New York en route to Rome.

Abstract/Notes: Noted Educator Begins Demonstrations of Her System - Dr. Maria Montessori delivered the first of her International Training Course lectures last night before more than 300 educational students and guests in the assembly hall of the Massachusetts pavilion at the Exposition. Dr. Montessori demonstrated her systems and plans with a class of seventy pupils. After the lecture she received guests at an informal reception in the blue room. Dancing and music took place in the ball-room.

Abstract/Notes: Liberty in the education of the young was discussed yesterday by Mme. Maria Montessori at the reception given to her in the Palace of Education at the Exposition. She said the present-day love of the child was responsible for the large number of interested persons who welcomed her to the Exposition. Dr. Augustus S. Downing, commission of higher education of New York, and Dr. Adelaide Brown of San Francisco, member of the advisory committee of the Montessori demonstration, extended welcome to the educator. Mme. Montessori will open her demonstration school in the Palace of Education at 9 o'clock this morning.

Abstract/Notes: Dr. Maria Montessori opened her parents' course with a lecture on "Discipline" in room C of the Palace Hotel yesterday afternoon. Mrs. Jessie Steinhart introduced the speaker and Miss Adelia Pyle acted as interpreter. This course is designed to give parents an idea of the adaptability of the Montessori system of education in the home, in response to the demand for something to supplement the training school for teachers at the Exposition. The next lecture will be given tomorrow afternoon at 4 o'clock. The local committee promoting the parents' course is made up of Mrs. Jessie Steinhart, chairman; Dr. Adelaide Brown, Mrs. William H. Crocker, Mrs. Earle Brownell, Miss Katherine Spiers, Dr. Frederic Burk and Miss Helen Parkhurst.

Abstract/Notes: Famous Educator Will Be Heard in Series for Parents - Since the arrival in America of Dr. Maria Montessori of Rome, Italy, wide interest has been manifested in her method of child culture, not only by those training to become teachers of this science, but also by mothers and some of the more progressive thinkers of the day. Dr. Montessori has had numerous and insistent request for a course of lecture for parents and those interested in the advancement of conditions for the growth and development of child life. In answer to this request she will give a course of twelve lectures at the Palace Hotel, beginning October 21, at 4:30 p.m., and every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday following until the end of the course.

Abstract/Notes: Educator Will Address Women's Auxiliary of the Temple Israel - Dr. Maria Montessori, originator of the Montessori system of education for the child, and who is one of the 'six most renowned women of the world,' who have been officially invited to attend the Exposition, will deliver an address before the Women's Auxiliary of Temple Israel, California and Webster streets, tonight. There will also be a musical programme of the following interesting numbers: Organ prelude, Mr. Archille Artigues; soprano solo, Miss Helen Coburn Heath; baritone solo, Mr. John Francis Jones; duet, Miss Heath and Mr. Jones. The public is invited to attend. Dancing and refreshments in the assembly hall. The president, Mrs. Abe Levin, will preside.

Dr. Montessori is one of the 'six most renowned women in the world' who have been officially invited to attend the Exposition. Dr. Montessori is the originator of the Montessori system of education for the child. A musical programme was given, including a baritone solo by John Francis Jones and a soprano solo by Miss Helen C. Heath. Miss Health and Jones also sang a duet. The organ prelude was played by Archille Artigues. After the programme dancing was enjoyed. Mrs. A. Leving, the president of the auxiliary, presided.
