Abstract/Notes: Objective To observe the effects of Montessori preschool education on the intelligence and auditory development of hearing-impaired children aged 2-3 years. Methods A total of 14 hearing-impaired children were randomly divided into experimental group and control group with 7 children in each. The experimental group received the routine auditory, speech rehabilitation and Montessori preschool curriculum for 12 months.By contrast, the control group only received routine auditory and speech rehabilitation training. The intelligence and auditory abilities of the children were evaluated with the Griffith Mental Development Scales (GMDS) and Infant-Toddler Meaningful Auditory Integration Scale (IT-MAIS) respectively before and after the experiment. Results (1)There was no significant difference in the development quotient(DQ) of GMDS between the two groups before the experiment(t=-0.172,P>0.05), but the DQ of the experimental group was significantly higher than that of the control group after the experiment(t=2.067,P<0.05). (2) There was no significant difference in the auditory scores between the two groups before the experiment(t=-0.273,P>0.05), but the auditory scores of the experimental group were significantly higher than those of the control group after the experiment(t=6.041,P<0.05).(3)The experimental group was significantly better than the control group in the phonation (P<0.05) and comprehension abilities (P<0.05), but the two groups had no significant difference in the sound detection ability(P>0.05). Conclusion Montessori preschool education is one of the effective rehabilitation approaches, and can facilitate the intelligence and auditory development of hearing-impaired children.

Abstract/Notes: The COVID-19 pandemic has profoundly impacted the Adult Day Services program and Adult Day programs across the country. As the Adult Day Services program transitions to an in-person format, goals within the organization include developing appropriate programming, increasing group size, and keeping clients entertained. The framework guiding this quality improvement project is Montessori-Based Dementia Programming ® (MBDP). This project aims to increase client engagement, decrease client anxiety, and decrease staff workload. This will be measured by a self-developed staff workload survey, the Menorah-Park Engagement, and the Affect rating scale. Implementation of MBDP at the Adult Day Center did not meet all projected goals, however benefits of MBDP were observed. The benefits of MBDP include improved affect and engagement of clients when participating in MBDP.

Abstract/Notes: The purpose of the study was to investigate the views of Montessori preschool teachers on inclusive education in Montessori approach. The views of 18 participants were examined in this study. All participants were selected from Ankara and İstanbul and they were investigated by a semi-structured interview protocol that was developed by the researcher based on the literature review. The protocol contained questions in three major parts; these were demographic questions about participants, questions about views on inclusive education and questions about views on inclusive education in Montessori approach and its advantageous and disadvantageous for children with disabilities. Phenomenology design was employed in the study and purposive sampling was used to reach the participants. According to findings of content analysis, Montessori teachers stated that they did not find themselves adequately educated and experienced in inclusive education but a large part of them thought that inclusive education is good for development of both disabled and non-disabled students. On the other hand, Montessori teachers expressed that enabling children to be independent and to encourage them to make their own decisions are the most important point of Montessori understanding. However, when considered in terms of disabled students, most teachers indicated that such liberal environment could constitute disadvantages for such students. Teachers stated that an educational environment which is structured and where influence of the teacher is more intensive would be better in terms of education of the disabled child, particularly when working with students with severe disabilities or students with attention deficit or autism.
