Third case, children who prefer the sad emotional reaction expected in the pre-test were seen to prefer angry and neutral response in the post-test.

Abstract/Notes: Multiage classrooms are an increasingly popular way to restructure schools. To be successful, multiage classrooms must shift their focus from teaching curriculum to teaching children. Strategies recommended for making multiage teaching successful include a process approach to learning, facilitation by the teacher, an integrated curriculum, appropriate learning environments, cross-age learning, flexible groupings, and portfolio assessment. Abstract/Notes: The purpose of this technology-integrated research is to understand the effects peer collaboration has on students writing skills on 2nd and 3rd graders in a virtual setting. The research took place over five weeks in a lower elementary classroom in a private Montessori school in New England area. The population included 18 students ages 8 to 9. Students participated in a 5-week intervention process, working in groups of 3 on peer collaboration, sharing ideas, and creating group written work. The findings indicate an overall beneficial effect on children’s attitude towards writing, leading to better writing skills and communication skills. Collaborative writing in a technology-integrated platform positively impacted students’ typing skills. Continued research is necessary to assess additional domains such as cognitive improvement, vocabulary effects, and students’ specific writing skills.

Abstract/Notes: In this study, after executing an anti-biased picture book reading program by parents, we searched for the program's influence on the peers' acceptance of the disabled young children. We set up the experiment group and the control group out of 35 kindergarten children of 7 years old in a kindergarten in Kyungki province. After reading them some anti-biased fairy tales, one of the parents, especially mothers, who were trained as the teacher for the day, proceeded the program as planned. The first result of the study was that children in the experiment group showed more positive attitude change for the acceptance of the children with special needs than those in the control group. Secondly, there was not much difference between boys and girls in the attitude change to disabled children. As picture books illustrate a specific story by using texts and pictures, the true meaning of anti-biased picture books lies in the fact that children can develop their moral judgment and ability to self-examination through listening to the unbiased story and looking at the anti-biased pictures. At the same time, reading anti-biased picture books with parents proved itself effective as a teaching method in helping children correct some negative stereotypes and prejudice against disabled children learned by parents at home. Therefore, the people in charge of the education in the kindergarten need to understand the necessity of parents' participation and education of the parents for the purpose of understanding disabled children. Any kindergarten superintendent will need to try hard to continue the education program for the achievement of this purpose.

Peer Tutoring and Cooperative Groups in the Dual Language Classroom

Available from: St. Catherine University

Abstract/Notes: How do we help children practice and retain the second language in a Dual Language program? We must find effective and fun ways, like Peer Tutoring and Cooperative Groups. This research was conducted with a group of 21 six and seven year olds in a Dual Language Immersion classroom in a Title 1 school. There was a mixture of boys and girls, Latinos, African-Americans and Caucasians. Data collection was done through surveys, observations, artifacts and narratives. The data showed that while these strategies did increase vocabulary, they did not inspire the children to speak more Spanish. They still reverted back to speaking in English. Based on my findings, students require more vocabulary and would benefit from more opportunities to practice it.
