Abstract/Notes: Bu araştırmada uluslararası Montessori öğretmen eğitimlerine katılmış bir öğretmenin anlatılarının derinlemesine incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmada nitel araştırma desenlerinden anlatı araştırma kullanılmıştır. Veri toplama sürecinde ölçüt örnekleme ile belirlenmiş bir Montessori öğretmeniyle yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmeler gerçekleştirilmiştir. Veriler tematik analiz kullanılarak analiz edilmiş ve ulaşılan bulgular üç ana tema “Montessori öğretmeni olma nedenleri” “Montessori öğretmeni olmak için alınan eğitimlerin özellikleri” “Montessori Öğretmen Eğitim Programlarının Katkılarına İlişkin Görüşler” altında açıklanarak kronolojik olarak sunulmuştur. Montessori öğretmeni olmak için alınan eğitimlerin özellikleri ana teması altında (a) NAMC Montessori öğretmen eğitimi programı özellikleri, (b) AMS eğitim ortamının özellikleri, (c) AMS öğretmen eğitimi programının özellikleri, (d) AMI eğitim ortamının özellikleri, (e) AMI öğretmen eğitimi programının özellikleri, (f) Eğitimcilerin özellikleri, (g) Anlatıcının aldığı programlara yönelik karşılaştırmaları alt temaları yer almıştır. / This study aimed to examine the narratives of a teacher who participated in international Montessori teacher training in depth. Narrative research, one of the qualitative research designs, was used in this study. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with a Montessori teacher who was selected based on criterion sampling. The data were analyzed through thematic analysis, and the findings were presented in chronological order under the themes of "Reasons to be a Montessori teacher", "The characteristics of the training taken to become a Montessori teacher" and "Views on the Contribution of Montessori Teacher Education Programs". The sub-themes of (a) NAMC Montessori teacher education program features, (b) The characteristics of the AMS education environment, (c) The characteristics of the AMS teacher education program, (d) Features of the AMI educational environment, (e) Features of the AMI teacher education program, (f) The characteristics of the educators were presented under the main theme of the characteristics of the training taken to become a Montessori teacher. The main theme of views on the contributions of Montessori teacher training programs includes the sub-themes of (a) contributions to professional development and (b) contributions to personal development. As a result, it is seen that the teacher education programs taken to become a Montessori teacher are generally quite long-term, as well as create a transformation in the professional identity of the participant.

Abstract/Notes: Maria Montessori graduated in medicine from the University of Rome and subsequently took part in the research activities of Roman medical anthropology scholars, some of whom were leading exponents in Italian science and culture. Giuseppe Sergi was a major figure in the national public debate regarding some of the main concerns in Italian society, focusing on the causes and consequences of poverty and illiteracy, and the need for a more effective education system. The ideas of Sergi and other scholars (C. Bonfigli, S. De Sanctis, N. D'Alfonso) regarding these problems influenced Maria Montessori. Indeed, she was inspired and encouraged by Sergi himself to direct her activities and research to the field of childcare and education. Medical anthropology was therefore an essential element in the formation of the young Montessori, and the genesis of her pedagogy and method. Teaching at the Institute of Education for Women in Rome represented an opportunity to develop a relevant “pedagogical anthropology” for her scientific evolution, even though Maria Montessori herself would later leave it behind. Abstract/Notes: This article reflects how to know about Montessori pedagogy and the process she followed to build it, can help future teachers to be reflective and innovative. The aim is not to suggest that student teachers should know the pedagogy of Montessori, nor that of any specific pedagogue, and to put it into practice or imitate it, without further ado. Educational literature agrees that an educational system will be as good as its teachers, and they will not be able to improve education if they simply apply methods designed by others in an uncritical and decontextualized way. After describing how Montessori came to propose her method and establish her pedagogical principles, the importance of linking theory and practice in the initial and permanent training of future teachers is underlined.

Abstract/Notes: "San Francisco, Cal., June 26 - Under the patronage of Miss Margaret Wilson, daughter of President Woodrow Wilson, Dr. Maria Montessori, the noted Italian educator, will conduct an international Montessori training course at the Panama-Pacific International exposition during August, September, October and November. With Miss Wilson on the committee in charge of the course are David Starr Jordan, president of the National Education association, which meets in Oakland in August, and P. P. Claxton, United States commissioner of education. The special course will be for the benefit of teachers, parents and others interested in child welfare, and in connection with it will be held a number of demonstration schools in which teachers will do practice work. Noted educators from all parts of the United States and from abroad have been asked to conduct a thorough study and test of Dr. Montessori's method of child training during this course. The exposition authorities asked Dr. Montessori to conduct her international training course on the exposition grounds because of the opportunity it will afford to give an international test of this newest and unique method of developing individual initiative in very young children. An essential part of the plan consists in the appointment of an international committee which will give careful and extended stay to the demonstration classes and report at the close of the exposition concerning the actual progress made and the real contribution that the Montessori principles have made to educational advancement. The arrangements for the course are in the hands of Wallace Hatch of Berkeley, Cal., who was formerly acting chief of the department of education of the exposition."
