Abstract/Notes: Positive behavioral supports (PBS) and the development of behaviorally oriented planning has become a ubiquitous paradigm in American schools. It is the preferred model for addressing behavioral issues with children as a means of preventing special education identification and placement. The effectiveness of this model has been well documented in peer-reviewed journals and shows an ability to change behaviors and improve academic achievement as measured by empirically designed assessments. However, the measurement of intellectual, moral and behavioral autonomy is seldom measured. Also, researchers from one perspective (Applied Behavioral Analysis) preclude other theoretical perspectives, to create the bulk of the evidence proving the usefulness of PBS as a viable model. It is the purpose of this paper to describe and support the contention that it is the concept of autonomy that is essential in measuring the success of behaviorally related interventions. This goal will be attained by deconstructing the PBS model. Further, it is an additional contention addressed in this paper that various Montessori methods and the theory’s fundamental theoretical concepts do a better job of addressing authentic change and the development of autonomy. This will result in internalized behaviors that behaviorally oriented methods can never demonstrate. A new theoretical model will be presented to illustrate the incorporation of autonomy into the rubric of successful behaviorally related interventions.

Abstract/Notes: In this research, the effectiveness of Montessori Method in acquiring color and texture knowledge of pre-school children has been examined. The dependent variable of this study is the color and texture knowledge of the children, the independent variable is Montessori Method. The study is planned both quantitative and qualitative, and experimental as well. 40 students are included in study group as experiment and control group. The experiment group consisted of 20 children aged between 4-5 years, who were trained in Montessori Method in Konya Selçuk University Health Sciences Faculty İhsan Doğramacı Practice Kindergarden in 2016-2017 academic year and selected by neutral assignment. The control group consisted of 20 children aged 4-5 years who were educated in Meram Gündoğdu Private Kindergarden School by the Ministery of Education’s pre-school education program. In the study, the “Color and Texture Knowledge Assessment Test” was used, which was prepared by the researcher of this paper and approved by an expert. These tests are applied as pre-test, post-test and tracking test. In the analysis of the data, Mann Whitney U Test and Wilcoxon Marked Ranks Test were applied. Results; ● There is no significant difference between the color knowledge pre-test rank averages of the experiment and control groups (p>0.05). ● There is no significant difference between the experiment and control group’s texture knowledge pre-test rank averages. (p>0.05). ● The color knowledge of the experiment group’s post-test rank averages are notably higher than the pre-test rank averages [Z=3.55; p< 0.05]. ● The texture knowledge of the experiment group’s post-test rank averages are notably higher than the pre-test rank averages. (Z=3.83,p<0.05). ● Although there is no notable difference between the post-test rank averages of both the experiment and the control groups, the experiment group’s color information is higher (p˃0.05). ● The texture information of the experiment group’s post-test rank averages are notably higher than the control group (p<0.05). ● There is no reasonable difference between the experiment group’s color information post-test and the tracking test rank averages (Z=0.27, p>0.05). ● There is no reasonable difference between the experiment group’s texture information post test and the tracking test rank averages (Z=0.24, p>0.05). The general conclusion is that the Montessori Method contributes positively to the acquisition of color and texture knowledge of preschool children and it is more effective than the Pre-School Education Program of the Ministry of Education / Bu araştırmada, Montessori Yöntemi’nin okul öncesi çocuklarının renk ve doku bilgilerini edinmelerine etkililiği incelenmiştir.

Therefore, we want to analyze whether and how the Montessori Method can contribute to this development of the subject when it needs to resolve conflicts. In view of this, the application of the Montessori method may be a methodology capable of helping to alleviate, or even to resolve, the problem. This method seeks to make children more independent as to the mastery of their emotional and social stability. The general objective of this article is to analyze the contribution of the Montessori Method to the independence of children, in the area of their socio-emotional aspects. The specific objectives are: to clarify what intrapersonal conflicts are and to exemplify situations; to understand the Montessori Method when it comes to autonomy and independence in childhood and to ratify the contribution of the method to socio-emotional development. The sequence of discussion sessions of the article deals with subjects that can clarify the aforementioned objectives, which are called: Intra-personal conflicts and example of situations; Montessori method - autonomy and independence of children and contribution of the Montessori method to socioemotional development in early childhood. Abstract/Notes: Montessori spaces and materials have often been framed as “gender neutral” or devoid of gendering practices, but there is a lack of research that has critically engaged with gender in Montessori contexts. This chapter explores current efforts to bring gender and sexuality into the conversation in Montessori circles. Using Maria Montessori’s feminist legacy as a springboard, the need for a sustained engagement with contemporary feminist research to complicate understandings of gender is justified. By utilizing contemporary feminist lens, the gender-neutral status of Montessori materials is ruffled and gender within Montessori practice and theory is re-thought as performative, relational, multiple, situated, and complex.
