Abstract/Notes: Artikel ini mengkaji tentang sejarah munculnya metode montessori dan esensi metode montessori dalam pembelajaran anak usia dini. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa munculnya metode montessori bermula dari ketertarikan Montessori pada anak-anak idiot menjadikannya akrab dengan metode pendidikan khusus yang dirancang bagi anak-anak kecil. Selanjutnya metode khusus tersebut diterapkan kepada anak-anak normal. Adapun esensi metode montessori dalam pembelajaran anak usia dini adalah the absorbent mind, the conscious mind, the sensitive periods (sensitivity to order, sensitivity to language, sensitivity to walking, sensitivity to the social aspects of life, sensitivity to small objects, sensitivity learning through the senses), children want to learn, learning through play, stages of development, and encouraging independence. [This article examines the history of the emergence and essence of Montessori method Montessori methods in early childhood learning. The results showed that the appearance stems from the Montessori Method interest in children idiot making familiar with special education methods designed for small children. Furthermore, the specific methods applied to normal children. The essence of the method Montessori in early childhood learning is the absorbent mind, the conscious mind, the sensitive periods (sensitivity to order, sensitivity to language, sensitivity to walking, sensitivity to the social aspects of life, sensitivity to small objects, sensitivity learning through the senses), children want to learn, learning through play, stages of development, and encouraging independence.]

Abstract/Notes: Tulisan ini berusaha menjelaskan pendidikan Islam dari sudut pandang Maria Montessori, yang merupakan tokoh pendidikan anak yang mencurahkan hampir keseluruhan hidupnya untuk anak-anak. Maria Montessori memiliki prinsip dasar mengenai metode montessori ini, yang sangat memfokuskan anak sebagai childern center dan orang dewasa sebagai pembimbing. Menurutnya, suatu fase kehidupan di awal sangat berpengaruh terhadap faserase kehidupan selanjutnya artinya bahwa pengalaman-pengalaman yang dialami oleh seorang anak di awal kehidupannya sangat berpengaruh terhadap kedewasaannya kelak begitu juga perlakuan yang di dapatkan anak sejak kecil akan sangat berpengaruh terhadap perkembang an anak selanjutnya. Kemudiaan sebagai umat Islam, sudah menjadi kewajiban bagi orang tua dan pendidik untuk menanamkan nilai-nilai ke-Islaman pada anak-anaknya. Dan agar nilai-nilai ke-Islaman tersebut dapat terserap dengan sempurna, maka harus diajarkan sejak anak-anak usia dini juga. Rasulullah telah menegaskan tentang tanggung jawab orang tua terhadap anak-anak dalam sabdanya. [This paper tries to explain Islamic education from the perspective of Maria Montessori, who is a figure of children's education who devotes almost her entire life to children. Maria Montessori has a basic principle regarding this Montessori Method, which is very focused on children as children centers and adults as guides. According to him, a phase of life at the beginning is very influential on the phases of the next life which means that the experiences experienced by a child early in life are very influential on their maturity as well as the treatment that children get from childhood will greatly affect the subsequent development of children. Youth as Muslims, it has become an obligation for parents and educators to instill Islamic values in their children. And so that these Islamic values can be absorbed perfectly, it must be taught from an early age as well. Rasulullah has emphasized the responsibility of parents towards children in their sayings.]

Abstract/Notes: Montessori approach is mostly used in the kindergarten and elementary school, especially in Indonesia. To explore the approach in the higher level of education, the research took place in a private Montessori Junior High School in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. This study is intended to investigate the students’ perceptions on the implementation of Montessori approach to improve their vocabulary due to the fact that vocabulary is central to language learning. The research participants are students in grades seven and eight. There were three research instruments in this study, namely observations, questionnaire, and Focus Group Discussion (FGD). Three different research instruments were used to make sure that the data obtained was valid. The researchers crosschecked the results from each instrument to triangulate data consistency. Based on the findings, the students have positive perceptions on the implementation of Montessori approach for vocabulary learning. The implementation of Montessori approach promotes its unique learning activities, teacher’s personal guidance, and students’ learning awareness, internal motivation, and interest. The students perceived that the implementation of Montessori approach can improve their vocabulary.

Abstract/Notes: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana implementasi prinsip-prinsip Montessori dalam pembelajaran,  Apa saja faktor pendukung dan penghambat implementasi prinsip Montessori dalam pembelajaran, Dampak menggunakan prinsip Montessori dalam pembelajaran terhadap perkembangan anak di Kelompok Bermain (KB) Safa Islamic Preschool Yogyakarta. Jenis penelitian adalah penelitian kualitatif yang bersifat diskriptif. Subjek penelitian adalah pemilik KB, kepala KB, guru KB dan anak-anak KB Safa Islamic Preschool Yogyakarta. Obyek penelitian ini adalah pembelajaran prinsip Montessori di KB Safa Islamic Preschool Yogyakarta. Pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi. Analisis data dilakukan dengan cara reduksi data, display data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Teknik penilaian keabsahan data menggunakan triangulasi teknik dan sumber. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Pertama, Implementasi pembelajaran berbasis prinsip Montessori melalui lima area model pembelajaran Montessori yaitu area sensorial, area matematika, area ilmu pengetahuan dan kebudayaan, area bahasa dan area keterampilan hidup yang berjalan dengan sistem penggabungan lintas usia disetiap kelompoknya. Kedua, Faktor pendukung dan penghambat, faktor yang mendukung di antaranya perencanaan dengan konselor pendidikan Montessori, pendidikan dan pelatihan Montessori, seluruh guru inti adalah sarjana. Faktor yang menghambat yaitu keterbatasan media pembelajaran, terjadinya pergantian guru, kurangnya pemahaman wali murid mengenai pembelajaran lintas usia. Ketiga, Dampak prinsip Montessori terhadap perkembangan anak adalah menjadi mandiri, kritris dan perkembangan sosial yang meningkat. [This study aims to find out how to implement Montessori principles in learning, what are the supporting and inhibiting factors for implementing Montessori principles in learning, the impact of using Montessori principles in learning on child development in the Safa Islamic Preschool Playgroup (KB) Yogyakarta. This type of research is descriptive qualitative research. The research subjects were family planning owners, family planning heads, family planning teachers and family planning children at Safa Islamic Preschool Yogyakarta. The object of this research is the learning of Montessori principles at KB Safa Islamic Preschool Yogyakarta. Collecting data using interview, observation, and documentation techniques. Data analysis was carried out by means of data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusions. The technique of assessing the validity of the data uses triangulation of techniques and sources. The results of this study indicate that first, the implementation of Montessori principle-based learning through five areas of the Montessori learning model, namely the sensorial area, the mathematics area, the science and culture area, the language area and the life skills area which runs with a cross-age system in each group. Second, the supporting and inhibiting factors, the supporting factors include planning with a Montessori education counselor, Montessori education and training, all core teachers are undergraduates. The inhibiting factors are the limitations of learning media, the occurrence of teacher changes, the lack of understanding of students' parents regarding cross-age learning. Third, the impact of the Montessori principle on children's development is to become independent, critical and increase social development.]

Abstract/Notes: Montessori approach deals with learning in independence and liberty. This way of learning requires students to explore information based on their learning interest. Therefore, reading has become one of the keys in learning successfully in a Montessori school. Moreover, the impact of self-efficacy on the learning outcomes has been explored in the educational psychology as a field of study. This study inspects students’ self-efficacy perceptions and their factors in reading comprehension in a Montessori Junior High School registered in 2018-2019 academic year. It is located in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. English is the main language used in the teaching-learning process in the school. The study is conducted by using mixed method. Findings are based on the 27 close-ended questions and three open-ended questions obtained from the students in grade seven and eight. In analyzing the results, concurrent triangulation strategy is applied. The results show that the students have positive self-efficacy perceptions on their reading (Average= 3.449/5), especially in reading, explaining, summarizing texts and comprehending the graphics found in the text without the guidance of their teachers. Their self-efficacy sources are found in their mastery experiences, vicarious experiences, verbal persuasion, and emotional and psychological states.

Abstract/Notes: This study sought to investigate the identity construction of Indonesian Montessori teachers. The research was done in two Montessori schools in Yogyakarta: Cosmic School and Universe School (pseudonyms). The participants involved in this research were eight teachers in total. The data gathering process employed questionnaire, classroom observation, interview, and written reflections. The findings have shed a light on the ways teachers develop their identities within Montessori’s values and principles that they reflect and implement in their daily teaching practice. The findings of the research portrayed that there were four major salient principles influencing the identity formation of becoming Montessori teachers. They were movement and cognition, choice, interest, and teacher ways and child ways. Those principles and values were becoming teachers’ guidance of creating professional working ethos. Montessori principles also influenced the teachers in the ways they perceived and treated the students. This study also revealed the undertaken agencies to hold identity as Montessori teachers. There were three broad themes to explain their agencies. They entailed the essence of building communication between teacher and parents, the significance of community support, and the importance of being well-prepared teachers. Based on the findings and discussion, some recommendations for future studies are also presented.

Abstract/Notes: Transforming two early education centres in China to incorporate the educational philosophy of Maria Montessori is a huge task. To induct teaching staff into Montessori’s philosophy, pedagogy, and curriculum when their past educational experiences have been formed by a rigid, traditional model added to the challenge. To further complicate matters the transformation took place during lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the staff participated in a completely voluntary capacity whilst in isolation. For this research project the authors collected data through direct observations, surveys, questionnaires, individual teacher interviews, and focus group interviews. How online professional learning for 35 staff members was planned, organised, modified, and undertaken is outlined. Practical and technical issues involved in moving from face-to-face to online teaching are also included. Teachers reported that the professional learning program had prepared them well for when the centres reopened and the children returned.

Abstract/Notes: In July 1922 a small private school called Nationale Onderwijs Instituut Taman Siswa was born quietly at a traditional town Yogyakarta in Central Java. Taman Siswa means literally “Garden for Pupils”. Nobody expected then that this pupils' garden would become a tough ground of resistance to the Dutch colonial Government later in the 1930's. The political climate in Indonesia around 1922 was showing a remarkable uprising of nationalism centering around the labor union movement guided by the Partai Komunis Indonesia (PKI, Indonesian Communist Party) and Sarekat Islam (Islam Union).
