Abstract/Notes: Virtual preschool seems to contradict the Montessori Method, a hands-on, sensorial-based early childhood curriculum. However, many virtual Montessori schools, borne out of the temporary need for isolation due to the Covid-19 pandemic, seek to continue this new implementation of Montessori education permanently. This qualitative study examined how eight preschool teachers in one US-based virtual Montessori program described how they made sense of implementing the Montessori curriculum in an online setting, how they understood the academic and social experiences of their preschool students, and what advantages and disadvantages they perceived for children in the enactment of Montessori education in the virtual format. Using a thematic analysis, this study found that teachers described many adaptations to Montessori education in the virtual format, including to the materials and to the class structure. They felt that their offerings generally met the academic and social needs of their students, while staying as true to the Montessori Method as possible. Teachers found various advantages in the enactment of virtual Montessori school, including the potential to reach children and families who would otherwise not have access to Montessori education in their local communities. Teachers also found various disadvantages, including the uncertainty of the future of the program, and the interference of the screen in a child’s path towards deep concentration, and did not feel that virtual Montessori preschool was an adequate stand-alone replacement for in-person Montessori preschool. Further research is needed on the effectiveness of other virtual Montessori preschools, on the experiences of children completing a full three-year cycle in the virtual Montessori Children’s House program, and on the academic and social readiness of children emerging from virtual Montessori preschool programs for both in-person Montessori and traditional elementary school.

Abstract/Notes: The number of preschoolers expelled and suspended from school is the highest among all student groups. In the long run, preschool expulsions and suspensions can have statistically detrimental effects on a child's life trajectory. In addition, students who are expelled or suspended have a higher dropout rate than other students. Researchers suggested that professional development of evidence-based strategies for preschool teachers could effectively address this issue, as challenging behavior is the leading cause of suspension and expulsion for students. However, traditional methods of professional development have not proven to be effective. According to researchers, consistent coaching has been suggested as an effective way to develop professional competence. In this of this study, the effect of virtual coaching on Head Start teachers use of behavior-specific praise is examined. Head Start programs need cost-effective ways for their teachers to learn evidence-based strategies. Providing virtual coaching could alleviate these costs.

Abstract/Notes: For many years in our kindergartens classical teacher-centered teaching has been applied. In this article we will try to study and shed light on: Was it the best method? Has this method helped the child's independence, self-realization or self-development? What about the psycho-emotional realms? It has been observed in many years of work in the preschool system, that classical methods have not properly helped the child's self-development and his achievements. The Montessori method has been applied around the world for years, "Help me do it myself" .... At its core lies the child's freedom in carrying out any activity from clothing - unclothing to scientific research. The teacher is the observer and the child chooses to perform a game or other activity based on his or her preferences or emotional state. It has been seen that the Montessori method has had a very positive impact on the development of the child. Individual work and interest are made possible thanks to educational tools created in a group that is heterogeneous in age and experience. Psychologically it is important that in a different age group there is no reason to compare. By applying Maria Montessori's method in life, adults need to understand what interests the baby, create the conditions for fuller development, and explain how the little one can learn more. But it remains to be seen how much can be achieved, how many teachers with years and years of experience can come out of their frameworks, and in addition, kindergarten education should not be limited to its walls, but requires continuing at home and a close parent-teacher collaboration.

Abstract/Notes: Cíl: V rámci bakalářské práce bylo provedeno měření jemné motoriky u dětí předškolního věku pravidelně navštěvujících Montessori mateřskou školu. Nejdříve proběhlo porovnání výsledků dětí z Montessori MŠ s hodnotami pražských dětí a poté komparace výsledků zjištěných v Montessori MŠ a hodnot dětí uvedených v diplomové práci Mgr. Ludvíka Valtra. Výsledky a diskuze: V rámci obou porovnání byl patrný statisticky významný rozdíl pouze v motorické dovednosti číslo 1, kdy u prvního zmíněného vzorku vykazovaly ukazatele úrovně jemné motoriky lepší hodnoty u souboru dětí z běžné MŠ a u druhého byla naopak patrná dovednostní převaha dětí z Montessori MŠ. Z výsledků tedy jednoznačně nevyplývá potvrzení ani vyvrácení hypotézy, která předpokládala dosažení jasně lepších výsledků dětmi z Montessori MŠ. / The Aim of the Thesis: We will measure fine motor skills of children in preschool age visiting Montessori kindergarten. We will compare measured results with children who visit common kindergartens. Method: We used battery test MABC-2 for measuring. We also used data from measuring fine motor skills among children from selection of kindergartens in Prague. This research is done by Mgr. Jakub Kokštejn, Ph.D. and has not been publishet yet. We also used data presented by Mr. Ludvík Valtr. We compared results between children from the Montessori kindergarten and children visiting prague kindergartens- sample one. Then we compared our results with results from the Diploma thesis by Mr. Ludvík Valtr- sample two. Results and Discussion: We found statistically significant result only in measuring of motor skill number one. In first mentioned sample we found better results between children from common kindergartens. In second mentioned sample we found better results between children from the Montessori kindergarten. We can not confirm or disprove the hypothesis where we expected significantly better results between children visiting Montessori kindergarten.

Abstract/Notes: The development of empathy in early childhood contributes to moral development, which affects justice and ultimately, society. This research team contends, corroborated by the most current evidence available in this field of study, that we can build up strong communities by cultivating empathy, emotional literacy, and prosocial behavior in early childhood - the period of life in which the brain is most plastic. These assertions are justified by Montessori philosophy. This paper offers a framework supporting the execution and implementation of a robust, community-based program for social interaction that has potential to benefit infants and preschool-age children in the context of Montessori classroom environments.

Abstract/Notes: Funding for Preschool programs has currently become a political agenda being debated in our nation. It is important to give our children an early start to education regardless of socioeconomic status, as it can be beneficial to them as they grow. This study will provide evidence to sway our politicians to fund preschool programs as they positively affect children in their kindergarten year. Historical Teaching Strategies Gold assessment data of 84 randomly selected kindergarten students will provide evidence of the effects of a preschool program. This data was collected from a year in kindergarten and consists of students that have attended a preschool in-district program, students who have attended a Head Start and outsider provider preschool program, and students who have no preschool education. Although this study did not have a significant difference among the groups, the researcher found that students who have attended an in-district preschool program made better positive gains throughout their kindergarten year than students who attended a Head Start and outside provider preschool program and those students who did not have a preschool education.
