Abstract/Notes: This article aims to contribute to scholarship on the internationalisation of the Montessori Method. Training courses were central to Maria Montessori’s international impact. Two case studies of training offered by Montessori in collaboration with Catholic women religious are used to demonstrate a Catholic internationalisation of her Method. The first considers that with the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary, in Rome between 1910 and 1914. The second, that with the Religious of the Assumption, in London from 1921 until Montessori’s death in 1952. More specifically, the article shows the significance of their classes as demonstration classes for Montessori’s international training courses. Participants of many nationalities and beliefs observed them, facilitating the initial and continued global implementation of the Method. The convent Superiors also achieved their own objectives.

Abstract/Notes: Bu araştırmada Montessori günlük yaşam becerileri çalışmalarının zihinsel yetersizliği olan çocukların öz bakım becerilerine etkisi incelenmiştir. / In this research, the effect of Montessori practical life studies on the self care skills of children who have mental retardation was observed. The subjects of the study consist of three mentally disabled children (mild, moderate, severe) attending a special-ed class in a primary school in Sarıyahşi district of Aksaray province in the 2019-2020 academic year. The subjects were determined by using the criterion sampling method, which is one of the non-random sampling methods. Participants were determined according to the different levels of disability as a criterion. In the study, ABA(Applied Behavioral Analysis) model, which is one of the single-subject research designs, was used. The 'Self Care Assessment Test' was used to collect the quantitative data of the study. Questions were asked to the observer classroom teacher to collect qualitative data at the end of the application. The data acquired are presented with a line chart. According to the results of the study, Montessori practical life studies positively affected the self-care skills of children with mild and moderate mental retardation.

Abstract/Notes: Grazia Honegger Fresco was one of Maria Montessori’s pupils, and she built on her teacher’s theories on the development and care of the infant and toddler child. She completed lengthy studies demonstrating how deeply Montessori investigated newborn children from the beginning of her research on human infancy. Montessori and Honegger Fresco introduced groundbreaking ideas, including: the fundamental role of the caregiver–child relationship, the importance of a young child’s environment responding to their particular sensitive periods of development, and the vision of a competent and active child even in the birth to 3 age group. The chapter provides an understanding of how the adult can prepare for the life of a young infant.

Abstract/Notes: I review recent practices and studies of the Montessori method from 1979 and intend to discover some tasks for future studies. I researched fourteen files in the DIALOG database, and tried to find papers from 1979 using the key word "MONTESSORI". Sixty-seven titles of books and papers were output from the DIALOG database. I classified them into five large groups. Each large group was further divided into small groups. The following are these large groups, with the numbers of books and papers contained in each large group shown in parenthses. 1. Studies which compared the Montessori method with other methods. (27) 2. Practical examples which developed and applied the Montessori method. (18) 3. Studies about the Montessori method for handicapped children. (12) 4. Philosophical and theoretical studies about the Montessori method. (8) 5. Scientific studies about the Montessori method. (2) The group of "Scientific studies about the Montessori method" had only two papers, the smallest in number of the five groups. The Montessori method was created scientifically by Maria Montessori at the beginning of this century. During the following years the educational and psychological sciences have developed gradually. I think that the Montessori method should be further studied scientifically from the modern educational and psychological points of view. Scientific studies will clarify new aspects of the Montessori method and add new elements to it. The Montessori method will develop and be applied to various fields.
