Abstract/Notes: The purpose of the present article was to search for new ways of individual pedagogical support for primary school children with learning disabilities. The article describes the mechanisms for putting the educational principles of Maria Montessori into the system of pedagogical support for children with learning disabilities, which apply the exercises of practical life to a real social environment. The objective of the exercises was to develop universal learning activities, e.g., the ability to plan and manage a child's activity, to reflect its results, to build up communication, to encourage cognitive development. Keywords: learning disabilities, individual pedagogical support, Maria Montessori, universal learning activitiesJEL Classifications: I20; I23

Abstract/Notes: Among the educational movements which have really aroused attention throughout the world in the last 60 years, that named after Maria Montessori can, without a moment's hesitation, surely be given pride of place. This reason alone is sufficient for a publication like the International Review of Education to be the proper medium through which, from time to time, to disseminate to a world-wide public reports about the progress of research and the development of practical methods of instruction as they continue to be produced by a movement such as this one. This is a different thing from saying that one sees eye to eye with the principles upon which Montessori education is based, but even at those points where one feels basically opposed to certain principles, it is nevertheless rewarding to renew and extend one's acquaintance with its theory and practice. This holds good all the more when we are concerned, as in several of the articles included in this issue of the Review, predominantly with practical questions, or the empirical or theoretical treatment of practical teaching problems.
