Montessori Partners Serving All Children: Evaluation Report for 2012–2015
Available from: Development and Training, Inc

Abstract/Notes: Montessori Partners Serving All Children (MPSAC) is a collaborative between the Montessori Center of Minnesota (MCM) and metro-area organizations. The goal of MPSAC is to demonstrate how the Montessori approach, starting with early education, can be viable, effective, culturally responsive, and accessible for all Minnesota children, including low income children from culturally distinct families and communities. Toward that end, MCM commissioned a three-year evaluation of its MPSAC initiative, currently a partnership with four participating community-led schools. This report presents comparative data and findings from that evaluation process, including data and analysis for this third and final year. The MPSAC initiative engaged partners in community-led Montessori schools in a three-year evaluation to assess the progress of children, staff, and schools in the following areas: School structures and quality (classroom environments, professional development, ongoing mentoring, and administrative technical assistance for newly formed schools); Children’s academic, cognitive, social, and physical health; and Successful inclusion and support of parents and community.

Abstract/Notes: The Center for Music and Rhythm is a very interesting center. In this, children can enter the characters they want, sing songs if they want, and play music on musical instruments if they want. This center can also be used as a corner. But using it as a center gives more positive results.

Abstract/Notes: My personal search for principles and practices to guide my role as a teacher of young children took me to Munich, Germany to be trained in the Montessori method; to Tumbaco, Ecuador to be a teacher trainee at the Wild's active school and most recently to Bali, Indonesia to experience Jean Liedloff's notion of a continuum concept. This search has brought me skills to set up an environment for children and to better understand my role in it. My work with children has helped me to integrate the principles and practices of individuals who have inspired my own feelings, thoughts and actions, thereby eliminating conflicts which I have previously experienced.

Abstract/Notes: The development of error monitoring is central to learning and academic achievement. However, few studies exist on the neural correlates of children’s error monitoring, and no studies have examined its susceptibility to educational influences. Pedagogical methods differ on how they teach children to learn from errors. Here, 32 students (aged 8–12 years) from high-quality Swiss traditional or Montessori schools performed a math task with feedback during fMRI. Although the groups’ accuracies were similar, Montessori students skipped fewer trials, responded faster and showed more neural activity in right parietal and frontal regions involved in math processing. While traditionally-schooled students showed greater functional connectivity between the ACC, involved in error monitoring, and hippocampus following correct trials, Montessori students showed greater functional connectivity between the ACC and frontal regions following incorrect trials. The findings suggest that pedagogical experience influences the development of error monitoring and its neural correlates, with implications for neurodevelopment and education.
