Abstract/Notes: Montessori teaching method has initiated a broad impact in the world since its birth at the beginning of 20 century. Although Montessori teaching method was introduced to China only a short time ago, the enthusiasm to promote this method is extremely high and there are already many Montessori kindergartens or Montessori classes. Therefore, whether in theoretic or practical level, it is necessary to do in-depth research on Montessori teaching method so as to promote its wholesome development in China. With the advantages of high quality, the adaptation to multi-culture and the quality of economy, Montessori teaching method is comparatively fit to be carried out in the underdeveloped ethnic minority areas in China.

Abstract/Notes: The case study, H is For Hurricane and M is For Maria explores the public Montessori System of Puerto Rico as an educational philosophy of resilience. The authors present a counternarrative to early literacy development on the island by focusing in on two public Montessori schools from Vieques, Puerto Rico. The study was conducted one year after the passing of Hurricane Maria. Data collected, highlights the strong effectiveness of combining children’s home life experiences together with foundational early literacy development. Through this piece, teachers and parents share how they teach early literacy by making the absolute most of what surrounds them physically and culturally. Puerto Rico is poorer than the poorest state yet has had the fastest growth of public Montessori schools, than anywhere else in the United States. Major conclusions state that access to public Montessori education in Puerto Rico offers children an advantage in early literacy development.

Abstract/Notes: The study of Montessori can be traced back to the 1980s in China. As time flies, more and more people begin to care Montessori and her ideas about kindergarten education. At the same time,“Montessori hot”spreads from the coast to the interior, spreading from big cities to small cities, extending to the private kindergartens and officical kindergartens. This “heat” is not only found in the thinking of Montessori, but also known for pursuing her teaching tool and the way of using the teaching tool; Mongolia Nursery and Mongolia classes also appear though China… This “heat” can be traced back to Montessori’s There Absorbent Mind, it impacts on the designing classic Montessori kindergarten curriculum. This paper focuses on education ideology in There Absorbent Mind and its influence on designing contemporary kindergarten curriculum, and makes a brief analysis and elaboration.
