Abstract/Notes: Közeleg április 30-a, az első osztályosok beíratásának időpontja. [April 30, the date of enrollment of first-graders, is approaching. Abstract/Notes: "MONTESSORI HOLDS FIRST CLASS HERE. Famous Teacher Sways 100 Tots with Personality and Without Words. Using the world famous Montessorl technique, swaying more than 100 little tots by her wonderful personality, and winning their understanding and co-operation without the medium of the spoken word, Madame Marie Montessori today, for the first time since her arrival in Southern California, taught a class of children in the Boyle Heights intermediate school. Three classes, chief among them the Montessori class from the East Seventh street school, assembled at the Boyle Heights Intermediate building shortly before 1 o’clock. All were tiny Montessori students, but most of them spoke only English. Promptly at 1 o’clock, the famous Italian educator, founder of the system which bears her name, appeared. She spoke only Italian. But with every gesture, every smile, a specific communication seemed to pass from her to the little folk gathered round her, and within a few moments after her coming, the room was alive with voluntary activities of the little boys and girls, busy over a self-chosen occupation or game. Miss Katherine Moore, who introduced the Montessori technique in Los Angeles after studying it with its founder in Italy, acted as interpreter for Madame Montessori. Today's class was the first in a two months’ demonstration course to be given in this city by Montessori. It is the first time she has ever established a training course outside of Rome, and eminent educators from all parts of the country are coming to the city to study under her during the term of thls course."
