Departing from this initial problem, the author conducted research on the development of a homeschooling guidebook assisted by the Montessori method for the introduction of basic English for Kindergarten B students at Kiddos Preschool Gianyar. Kiddos Preschool was chosen as the location because Kindergarten B students at the school use English as the language of instruction in their learning both online and during offline classes. The number of subjects used for the small group product test were 15 parents and their children as Kindergarten B students.

Abstract/Notes: Three groups of parents, ten who had chosen to homeschool their children, and twenty public school parents, ten who had sent their children to the Montessori program and ten who had sent their children to the regular program completed three locus of control measurements and a Q-sort on educational beliefs. Twelve parents were later interviewed. Homeschooling parents were found to feel more in control of their children's destiny and less controlled by chance and powerful others than were schooling parents. Montessori parents felt less controlled by chance than traditional parents. There were no differences in measures of internality. Results of the Q-sort indicated that subjects did not fall into readily identifiable liberal, moderate and conservative groups. The Q-sort, in fact, yielded four factors, one liberal factor focusing on 'self-actualization', one factor focusing on moral development and good citizenship, and one focusing on a challenging academic curriculum. The fourth factor was similar to the self-actualization factor but slightly more conservative. Factor I was comprised primarily of homeschoolers and Montessori parents, Factor II of only 'Christian' homeschoolers, Factor III of Montessori and traditional parents and Factor IV of traditional parents only. Interviews suggested that homeschooling parents were well-informed about child development and education while Montessori and Factor III traditional parents were well informed about child development.

Abstract/Notes: A fifteen-year experience of day-by-day, year-by-year, learning how to create an authentic Montessori education at home through elementary, middle, and high school. The main guide or teacher during these years had taken AMI teacher training courses for 0-3, 3-6, and 6-12 and had taught for many years. Even though this is not to be thought of as an instruction manual for Montessori homeschooling it is hoped that the book will be helpful for parents and teachers wanting to understand the value of a unique educational path, rather than thinking that all children should be educated exactly the same way (in both traditional and Montessori schools). The idea is “following the child.”Also I hope it will help growing children and young adults feel that their own choices, their own individuality, can be respected. I believe that unique and creative educational paths such as this one will help solve the problems of the future.
