This practical parenting guide makes Montessori accessible to every parent and child, regardless of time pressures and resources. It includes: – Outlines of the Montessori principles clearly and succinctly: respect, freedom, curiosity, creativity, responsibility and independence. – Examples on how to apply these principles to everyday life – with sections on breakfast time, school/daycare drop off, school/daycare pick up, playtime, meal times, homework time, bath time and bedtime. – Demonstrations of how to apply Montessori techniques to an older child new to Montessori and how to flex and build on the techniques as your child grows up. Montessori is a unique educational philosophy created by Maria Montessori that fosters the growth of the whole child. From enjoying nature together to free time and weekends, every aspect of family life is an opportunity for meaningful engagement with your child. Montessori For Every Family offers you pragmatic, real-life advice, suitable for children of all ages, showing you how easy and natural it is to create a nourishing and empowering environment at home for everyone. Abstract/Notes: Although Montessori's name is almost universally known in education circles today, and there are countless nursery schools throughout the world using the "Montessori Method," the real core of her thinking has remained largely misunderstood. Most people regard the method as a system for the education of very young children. And most who have some direct experience of it, either as parent or teacher, would regard it as involving a certain set of procedures and specialized educational materials with clear and elaborate instructions for their use. However, the essence of Montessori's philosophy of education is in reality far broader than this, and contains a powerful message for educators everywhere. What is less well-known about Montessori's work is that she began by establishing the effectiveness of her approach at the pre-elementary level, but also strongly encouraged the extension of her method to the higher levels of education. Wentworth's purpose in writing this book is to elucidate this vital aspect of Maria Montessori's life's work and to show how it applies to real-life teaching situations. She believed that by transforming the process of children's education she could help to transform the attitudes of the adults they will later become, and so those of society and the world at large--a message she promoted as vitally relevant to the future of humankind as a whole.

Abstract/Notes: Maria Montessori was an Italian psychiatrist who dedicated her life to education, firstly educating children who had psychological difficulties and then working at Casa dei Bambini with children aged 3 to 6 years. In this context, she developed the method of Scientific Pedagogy, which became known worldwide as Montessori Method. Currently, her method covers the education of babies up to college students. Although her ideas have reached the most diverse age groups, several countries and even non-education areas, such as nursing homes and hospitals; Montessori, even today, is little known. This study aims at revisiting the works of Maria Montessori and her collaborators to understand their contributions to early childhood education. To achieve this objective, a qualitative approach research was used, with bibliographic research as procedure. This work was divided into three sections. The first section presents the life of Maria Montessori and the development of her method, the production of her works; it also contextualizes Montessori in the educational context of that time: showing its non-connection with the New Education that was developed in the same period; in addition, it presents some of its main collaborators, such as: Mario Montessori, Gianna Gobbi, Adele Gnocchi, Silvana Montanaro, Camilo Grazzini, Helena Lubienska de Lenval, Paula and Angeline Lillard, Catherine L’Ecuyer, Talita Almeida; ending the chapter with the arrival of the System in Brazil. In the second section, there is the Montessori vision of human development, demonstrating The Four Plans of Human Development with the geometric and organic figures (Bulb) elaborated by the author. The third section presents the contributions of Maria Montessori to the education of strong, happy and integral children, presenting three important elements that are related in the education process: the environment, the teacher and the child; thus it presents what is needed from each of these to achieve the objective of forming strong, happy and integral children. This work concluded that the Montessori System has a lot to contribute to education, especially for early childhood education.

Abstract/Notes: One of the most interesting studies of the socialistic program is that of the establishment and operation of various community plans in which some of the fundamental prin ciples of Socialism have been put into operation as far as such principles could be made effective under the handicaps of a national capitalistic regime and such other difficulties both internal and external— as necessarily present themselves in undertakings of this kind. These communistic experiments have been tried at various times, in various countries, ana with varying degrees of success. It will be the purpose of this paper, however, to deal with but a few of the leading community settlements of this country in order to throw light upon one of the most recent of such ventures, Llano del Rio, that we may be able to study in it the elements of organization and operation which promise success and those which indicate disintegration either now or later.

Implementing Multiage Education: A Practical Guide

Abstract/Notes: Noting that multiage education continues to receive a great deal of interest as educators, legislators, and parents seek to find ways to improve educational experiences for all children, this book takes readers by the hand and guides them as they move from exploring the concept of multiage to the actual stages of implementation. As is consistent with the philosophy of multiage, the book does not suggest that there is only one right way to put multiage into practice but presents many possible avenues to beginning multiage classes. "Clipboards" and "memos" at the end of each chapter provide summaries or discussion questions for the faculty to ponder as they decide if and how to implement multiaging in their school. After a foreword by Barbara Nelson Pavan and an introduction, chapters in the book are: (1) "Why Become Multiage"; (2) "Changing the Face of Education--Successfully"; (3) "Designing the Multiage School"; (4) "Schoolwide Considerations"; (5) "Setting the Stage: Curriculum
