Abstract/Notes: The aim of this paper is to examine the multiple concepts of nature expressed in the writings of Maria Montessori, in relation to children’s relationship with nature and salient educational practices. We analyze the multiple meanings that Montessori herself attributed to the term nature”, going on to explore the role of nature in her child pedagogy, as well as her thoughts on caring for nature, in keeping both gardens and animals, and on nature as the ideal setting for sensory education. We ultimately draw together a Montessorian Pedagogy of Nature that underscores the importance of child-nature interaction during the early stages of development. The study was conducted under the PRIN 2019-2021 program, as part of a leading research national project entitled “Maria Montessori from the past to the present”.

Abstract/Notes: Maria Montessori is one of the most well-known women in Italian history. Although she was the first woman who graduated in medicine in Italy, she is mostly known as an educator. Her teaching method -the Montessori Method- is still used worldwide. Because she could not speak English during the imprisonment in India, there was a big obstacle for her communication with children. However, the need to adopt a non-verbal communication, led her to a sensational discovery: children use an innate and universal language. This language, made of gestures and mimic, is called extra verbal communication.

Abstract/Notes: This paper aims at investigating the pedagogy of the AUA Pre-school English program from the perspective of Montessori Method. To reach the aim of the study the convergences and divergences between the Montessori and foreign language pedagogies were investigated in terms of teacher and student roles, materials and environment, sensory development and language use by both the teachers and learners. The mixed methods type of research was chosen for the study, where the qualitative analysis was done through classroom observation checklists and interviews with the program teacher, and the quantitative analysis was done with audio-video recordings. The findings of the research showed that the implementation of the Montessori Pedagogy in the “AUA Pre-school” English program is quite possible as the convergences outweighed the divergences.

Abstract/Notes: Children suffering with graphomotor skills which may be related to specific learning disabilities are identified in the first year of primary school. Learning disabilities are linked to developmental changes, but also to changes induced by targeted support and intervention. For this reason, it is required of the teacher to provide adequate support to eliminate problems in graphomotor skills in case of identifying the child's difficulties. The application of support activities can be included in both pre-school and primary education levels. Various development and stimulational programs might be an inspiration, as well as support techniques including montessori and waldorf pedagogy. The contribution is a partial output of the Kega project no. 0026UK-4/2021 Preventive Strategies of Specific Learning Disabilities in Terms of Graphomotor Skills in Preschool Age.
