Abstract/Notes: INTRODUCTION In our first article (Montessori Life, Volume 30, Number 3, Fall 2018), we examined the intersection between Montessori pedagogy and social justice and looked at the need for anti-bias practices. Wasn't I the same person I had been just a month earlier? I didn't see the relationship between my warm reception and my American nationality until the school bell rang and I was folded naturally into a comfortable blanket of lively African girls, sashaying with deep sighs of relief away from the schoolhouse onto a sea of green grass. The worst punishment of all was administered every morning by the Rhodesian headmaster, who stood with his cane to beat a line of Shona boys stretching from his office all the way through our green-grass play area. QUESTIONS FOR SID MOHANDAS Sid Mohandas is a Montessori teacher and trainer, and the founder of The Male Montessorian project, a platform committed to highlighting issues related to gender equality, diversity, and inclusiveness within Montessori Early Childhood practice.

Abstract/Notes: Ultimately, I was no longer willing to teach in such a deficit-based model of education. [...]I set out on a journey to create an educational model, Keres Children's Learning Center (KCLC), that would honor the "whole Pueblo child" and our Keres language in an immersion Montessori setting. The whole Pueblo child is built up through an environment my colleague Mario Benabe (2018) described as including "teachers who lead understanding cultural knowledge beyond the confines of the Montessori philosophy, materials and their scope and sequence [Math, geography, Language, Sensorial, Practical Life, etc.] and how they communicate this linguistically/ culturally with and to children." At the 2018 Montessori for Social Justice Conference, Roberto and Lorena Germán reminded us of the importance of culturally sustaining pedagogy (CSP) that "seeks to perpetuate and foster-to-sustain linguistic, literate, and cultural pluralism as part of schooling for positive social transformation. Johnny is 3-6-credentialed (AMI), holds a Master of Education degree with dual emphasis in Montessori and Early Literacy, and is a doctoral candidate in Urban Leadership at the Johns Hopkins University School of Education.

Abstract/Notes: One thing about the Madison Montessori School that impressed this author is its belief in the power and importance of art in education: that an art program can enhance the power of the core learning programs designed for the children and that art develops the whole child, the whole family, the whole school, and the whole community. Its program, "Genuine Art," is best described as a unique extracurricular program and series of events created for the students by a group of parent volunteers, teachers, and artists. Throughout the school year, professional artists donate their time to visit the classroom and guide students through a series of collaborative art sessions. This article illustrates the positive impact of "Genuine Art" to a Montessori child's life. Combined with the daily work in the classroom and with the music, creative movement, drama, and science curricula, "Genuine Art" complements and even elevates the everyday learning experiences that the Madison Montessori teachers so thoughtfully, attentively, and skillfully afford the children.
