Abstract/Notes: In this article, the author presents the biography of Maria Montessori, who pioneered early childhood education and introduced a new method of pedagogy. The innovations in education that Montessori introduced were enough to reserve a place for her in the history books. Montessori was ahead of her time in many aspects of her life. The decisions that she made enabled her to overcome the numerous restrictions put on a woman born in Italy in 1870. Her decisions are a reminder of the unlimited possibilities available to women who choose to write their own scripts. (Contains 4 endnotes.)

Abstract/Notes: "The address of Mme. Montessori at the exposition Monday, July 12, educational day, will be of extraordinary interest, not only in its content, but in the manner of presentation. Dr. Montessori will speak in Italian and the translation and delivery to her audience will be made in sentences as they are spoken by Miss Adele McAlpine Pyle [Adelia Pyle], a wealthy New York woman, who went to Rome to study with Montessori and became so attached to the great educator that she accompanies her as traveling companion. Commissioner P. P. Claxton will speak on lessons of the war for America. Following the conclusion of his lecture there will be a reception in honor of Dr. Montessori and Mr. Claxton at the headquarters of the women's board of the exposition. As a special tribute to Madam Montessori and her presence in San Diego, the women's board will be assisted at the reception by a number of society women of the city and representatives of the city's educational institutions..."
