The 'Cosmic' Task of the Youngest Children – Direct, Anticipate or Respect? Experiences Working with Small Children

Abstract/Notes: The article derived from Grazia Honegger Fresco’s years in close cooperation with Maria Montessori and Adele Costa Gnocchi. The author illustrates how small children from the moment they start using their hands and are standing unassisted on their own legs must act in their own way. The teacher must observe before acting and intervene as little as possible. Honegger Fresco follows the work of Montessori and Costa Gnocchi and she compares the findings with different fields of science, such as ethnology and neurology. As a result of her observations and experiences she points toward the relationship between a good childhood, and in the long term, human responsibility on Earth, using the concept “the Cosmic Task”. The method in this article is based on autoethnography, as the author shares her personal experience and reflections, both as a teacher and as an educator. The aim is to shed light on aspects regarding the needs of small children and to point at the essential role of adults, educators as well as parents. As Schiedi explains, autoethnography “extends its narrative horizon to a social, professional, organizational dimension of the self” (2016). During Honegger Fresco’s career, she was primarily inspired by Maria Montessori’s research about child development and children’s needs and rights, and she had continuously deepened her understanding by studying other researchers in this field. Thus, the article will share her conviction that by serving the creative spirit of the youngest children we will build a better future for our planet.

Abstract/Notes: Like the whole world, our Indian society too has undergone many changes. Indian women have become very aware of their rights. Now she does not want to depend on her husbands, for this she tries to be selfsufficient and independent. But the circumstances are not so simple. Managing work and family responsibility can be very difficult for the women employees. And if the woman is a mother, things get even more difficult, because responsibility also gets bigger. A woman who work or do any business or other work especially working mothers has to perform multiple roles in balancing their work life and personal life. Each role has its own set of demands and when such role demand overlaps/interacts, a difference is created leading to stress, attrition, absenteeism and other health issues etc. Thus, there is an increasing need for organizations to address these demands of working mothers by implementing innovative HR policies. Worklife balance is one such HR practice that enables the employees particularly working mothers to give proper prioritization between work and lifespan roles. Hence, work-life balance has become a growing concern in all the sectors. Indian women have created a history in every domains of life today. She is now more being confident and positive. The present paper based on empirical research, delivers a deep insight of work-life balance of working mothers the problems faced by them in different phases of life. With the passage of time the relevance of work life balance becomes very important for working women when family responsibilities increase and care for children and other dependent become priority.

Abstract/Notes: This article explores teacher educator Lillian de Lissa’s working life in the first half of the twentieth century. In 1944 the McNair report criticised residential colleges and their female staff as isolated and intellectually impoverished. However, in Australia and then as the foundation Principal of Gipsy Hill Training College, de Lissa was not only committed to teaching and administration, but also to presenting and publishing her scholarly work nationally and internationally. Furthermore, she chaired the Nursery School Association for nine years, gave evidence at several government inquiries and lectured in the United States in 1943. This article focuses on the elements of de Lissa’s career that might be included in an academic curriculum vitae in order to challenge the McNair report and highlight her contributions to early childhood education and teacher education.

Abstract/Notes: W artykule opisano wyniki badań dotyczących rozumienia pojęcia „miłość” przez dzieci uczęszczające do szkół pracujących w oparciu o system tradycyjny oraz alternatywny – M. Montessori. Badania zostały przeprowadzone w 2018 r. w grupie 80 dzieci w wieku 6–9 lat. Wyniki zostały zebrane na podstawie analizy wytworu plastycznego, przedstawiającego wyobrażenie miłości (rysunek wykonany dowolną techniką), oraz wypowiadanych przez dziecko skojarzeń ze słowem miłość. Na podstawie przeprowadzonych analiz zauważono większą różnorodność interpretowania miłości wśród dzieci uczących się w oparciu o system alternatywny, jakim jest pedagogika Montessori. / The article presents the results of the research of understanding of the concept of “love” by children attending to schools based on traditional and M. Montessori’s alternative system. The research was conducted in 2018 on a group of 80 children (aged 6–9). The results were collected on the basis of the analysis of their artistic products, presenting an image of love (drawings with the use of various techniques) and associations expressed by the child with the word love. According to the analyses, a greater variety of interpretations of love among children learning on the basis of an alternative system, i.e. the pedagogy of Montessori, has been noticed.
