Abstract/Notes: The Montessori method, which is a learning method that depends on each student, has the advantage of growing critical thinking, collaborating, and acting more assertively. Children with good cognition are characterized by problem-solving skills by prioritizing prosocial in every interaction, and vice versa. The lack of research in the field of sports related to motor and montessori movements, especially in West Nusa Tenggara and the results of observations at the MI Al Ijtihad school still use a monotonous learning pattern so that students tend to be passive, not independent and not confident so that it affects motor skills, in this study what is meant is rough motoric. The population in this study were students of MI Al-Ijtihad, totaling 20 students. In this study, researchers used purposive sampling with certain criteria. In this study, the researchers used instruments, namely the Zig-zag Running test and the Throwing the ball at the target. The type of research used is a quantitative experiment with a pre-test post-test group design. The data analysis technique used is the t-test through the t-test formula. From the results of statistical data analysis of the effect of modification of props on gross motor skills, the tcount X (throwing the ball at the target) of 5.446 simultaneously between Y and X1 draws conclusions from the table analysis at a significant level of 5% with the number of samples (n - 1), namely 19 is 2,869. So it can be concluded that ''There is an effect of modification of Montessori teaching aids on gross motor skills seen from tcount > ttable (5.446 > 2.869).

Applying Constructivist Methodology to Enhance Earth and Space Science (ESS) Teaching in Montessori Schools

Available from: Arizona State University Library

Abstract/Notes: This paper recommends amendments to the Montessori teaching system, which can in turn be adapted by individual educators or administrative school boards. The proposed tools mentioned in this paper follow the tenets of Constructivist teaching, which Montessori uses as some of its core teaching values (“Who and What is Montessori?”). Constructivist teaching argues that students learn best when they are able to apply their knowledge base to new learning experiences. The word comes from the idea that students are “constructing” their knowledge base one piece at a time, a process that starts from the ground, or base layer, and builds up from that. This construction involves physical representations of concepts, or guided experiences. Contrary to traditional, “top down” teaching, students learning through constructivist teaching get to experiment with learning concepts before a teacher explains the proper theory. These teachings try to generate excitement for the subject matter as extensions of students’ prior learning. Simulation and data visualization are powerful tools that allow students to discover the patterns present in natural processes by giving them the power to affect the environment and see the results. Implementation of the learning strategies of data visualizations and simulations should improve student performance and excitement in Earth and Space Science (ESS), while also being compliant with the Montessori teaching method.

A Critical Enquiry into the Implementation of the Montessori Teaching Method as a First Step Towards Inclusive Practice in Early Childhood Settings Specifically in Developing Countries

Available from: SAGE Journals

Abstract/Notes: The analysis was carried out as part of a master's thesis and it aimed to analyse the extent to which the Montessori educational philosophy and teaching method incorporated inclusive educational qualities. The Montessori Method was first developed for children who were disadvantaged and considered 'idiots', in the slums of Italy's San Lorenzo. With the usage of her didactic materials, Maria Montessori proved that the children in question were indeed educable given the correct type of instruction. The focus of this article is on the inclusive qualities embedded within the Montessori philosophy and teaching method, which can be reason enough for it to be adopted by developing countries that have limited budgets/funding for the purpose of special education. This method could prove to be an easy alternative for the immediate implementation of early childhood inclusive education for countries such as Malaysia which do not yet possess specific legislation governing special education.
