Abstract/Notes: Formerly entitled The Montessori Method: Scientific Pedagogy as Applied to Child Education in the Children's Houses. This book was first published in 1909 under the title 'Il Metodo della Pedagogia Scientifica Applicato all'Educazione Infantile nelle Case dei Bambini' ('The Montessori Method: Scientific Pedagogy as Applied to Child Education in the Children's Houses) and was revised in 1913, 1926, and 1935. Maria Montessori revised and reissued this book in 1948 and renamed it 'La Scoperta del Bambino'. This edition is based on the 6th Italian edition of 'La Scoperta del Bambino' published by the Italian publisher Garzanti, Milan, Italy in 1962. M. J. Costelloe, S. J. translated this Italian version into the English language in 1967 for Fides Publishers, Inc. In 2016 Fred Kelpin edited this version and added many footnotes. He incorporated new illustrations based on AMI-blueprints of the materials currently in use.

Abstract/Notes: This study aims to examine relationship between early childhood pre-service teachers' early childhood mathematical content knowledge and mathematics teaching efficacy. This study's subjects are 73 early childhood pre-service teachers from two four-year universities, A and B, situated in Daejeon Metropolitan City. Their mathematical content knowledge and mathematics teaching efficacy were analysed using a concept map and a questionnaire, respectively. The results are as follows. First, there was static correlation between early childhood pre-service teachers' early childhood mathematical content knowledge and mathematics teaching efficacy. Second, relationship between early childhood pre-service teachers' early childhood mathematical content knowledge and outcome expectation was not statistically significant. Third, there was static correlation between early childhood pre-service teachers' early childhood mathematical content knowledge and efficacy expectation. The above results mean that pre-service teachers' good learning of a specific subject's content knowledge leads to their excellent teaching, and therefore good learning of content knowledge is crucial.

Abstract/Notes: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of young children's team centered problem-based learning strategies(team centered PBL) on the self-efficacy and academic interests in young children's mathematics. For these purposes, the data were collected by questionnaire from 27 young children living in S-city. They were respectively assigned to experimental group and comparative group. The experimental group was trained four weeks with the 12th sessions through the team centered PBL. Before administrating the experimental procedure, both groups took the pretest for measuring their self-efficacy and academic interests. After the experimental sessions, they also took the posttests to measure both of them. The major results of this study were as follows: First, the experimental group trained through the team centered PBL strategies has got higher scores on the self-efficacy questionnaire than the comparative group. Second, the former which got higher scores on the self-efficacy also gained more scores on academic interests test than the latter. In light of these results, it suggests that young children's self-efficacy in the kindergarten could be acquired through team centered PBL strategies.

[This work attempts to trace the considerations and aspects that illuminate the child in our society from the Montessori point of view, noting the similarities in the Montessori and Miller's pedagogical approaches. According to Montessori and Miller, the child is to be recognized as an equal human being, and the child's soul requires a special sensitivity on the part of the adult for its needs. It is important to support the children in their abilities in the best possible way. In relation to the pedagogical tension between independence and coercion, I deal with the contradiction between pedagogical norm and function from the point of view of Gruschka's cold studies. The cold studies point to the irreconcilable contradictions experienced by individuals between the norm of the social generality of education and the selection function of educational institutions. Finally, the social structures that cause cold as socially accepted behavior should be consciously perceived and reflected upon. For this it is necessary to give the children as much freedom as possible in which they have opportunities for experience. In addition, school education must be combined with the life of the children. to give the children as much freedom as possible in which they have opportunities for experience.
