Abstract/Notes: The Hartford Early Childhood Program involves more than 4,500 children from 4 years old to first grade level in over 200 classrooms. Classrooms are designed to offer children an environment that encourages them to learn independently. Ideas have been borrowed from the Montessori approach and the British Infant Schools and fitted to the needs of the Hartford school district's urban students. The program philosophy embodies new approaches that can be used in old school buildings such as formal education beginning at 3 years, mixed-age "family" grouping, interest centers, and emphasis on intrinsic motivation toward personel success. Future plans call for extension of the program to all public school classes in grades K through 2. Abstract/Notes: Montessori system its impact can easily be seen in the field of pre-primary education in the European countries, U.S.A., India, China, Japan, African countries, Latin American countries and all through the world, This system has encouraged lovers of education to discover new methods of teaching young children. This system emphasized the necessity of study of children in order to educate them properly. As a result, education became child-centered. The construction of curriculum became oriented to the actual needs of life. It was considered necessary to provide a good environment in the school. The aims of education became oriented to individual development of each child. Hence emphasis was laid on the development of personality of each child. Proper training of teachers was considered necessary.

Abstract/Notes: The present study was intended to investigate the current status of Montessori education practices in Korea and to suggest future direction for its improvement and successful implementation of Montessori education in Korean kindergarten. This study was conducted by self-administered questionnaire survey. Subjects served for the study consisted of 85 Montessori teachers among 30 Montessori Kindergartens located in Seoul area, sampled from Korean Montessori kindergarten, using random sampling method. Data were analysed by IBM-PC computer, using SAS program. Statistical methods employed were frequency of item, t-test, and ANOVA. The summary of the research findings was as follows: It was revealed that Korean Montessori teachers who have worked for Montessori Kindergarten with the large amount of Montessori materials on hand had considerably higher recognition of the practical application of Montessori materials and teaching method of Montessori`s theory and program than Montessori teachers with small amount of materials in their Montessori kindergarten. However, the educational instruments for assessing the whole development of children held in stock by Korean Montessori kindergarten generally were below the mean number of holdings. Therefore, the author suggests the importance of educational assessment instruments for Montessori children and those proper application methods.

Abstract/Notes: This article examines the three most prominent movements of alternative education in Israel: Democratic education, Waldorf education, and the Montessori method of education. By comparing the educational approaches according to specific criteria, the goal is to provide the reader with as broad a picture as possible of their similarities and differences. The discussion focuses on the philosophical approach and general principles of each movement and does not aim to provide information or characteristics of specific educational institutions. One of the goals of the article is to bring before parents, educators, and policy makers knowledge of the different approaches so that they can understand and judge them with greater clarity.

Abstract/Notes: Students who have attended Montessori pre-kindergarten and kindergarten appear to experience greater academic success than those who attend the general classroom. The purpose of this research was to examine what Montessori classrooms did differently than the general education classrooms and whether Montessori prepares students for greater academic success in elementary school. There is a vast amount of literature available on the impact of Montessori education on student achievement, but few comparison studies. The methodology for this research was causal comparative. Quantitative data was collected to ascertain the practices of Montessori classrooms to produce more academic success than that of the general education classroom. The purpose was to determine if students in a Montessori classroom will have higher academic success or if those in a traditional general education classroom setting will have higher achievement on the MAP reading and math assessment.

Abstract/Notes: Montessori yaklaşımı dünyada yaklaşık bir yüzyıldır uygulanmaktadır. Ülkemizde de son yıllarda ilgi görmektedir. Montessori yaklaşımında çocuğa bütüncül olarak bakılmaktadır. Bilgi aktarımı kadar çocuğun sağlıklı kişilik gelişimine ve hayata hazırlanmasına önem verilmektedir. Bu çalışmada, temel eğitimde Montessori yaklaşımını uygulayan okullardaki din ve değerler eğitimiyle ilgili dersler ve içerikleri hakkında bilgi verilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Çalışma kapsamında, dünyada Montessori yaklaşımını uygulayan çeşitli okullarla görüşülmüş, programlarında hangi derslerin yer aldığı sorulmuştur. Ülkeden ülkeye, okuldan okula farklılıklar olmakla beraber, genel olarak, okul öncesinde zarâfet ve nezâket derslerine yer verildiği, ilkokulda ise kozmik eğitim adı verilen program kapsamında çeşitli ders içeriklerinde ve ders dışı etkinliklerde din ve değerler eğitimi konularının işlendiği görülmüştür. / The Montessori educational approach has been in implementation in the world for almost a century. Likewise, it has received a lot of attention in Turkey in recent years. The Montessori education model nurtures and educates child through a holistic method. The proper development of child's personality and preparation towards life is considered as important as imparting knowledge to the child. This study aims to give insight of courses and contents of religion and value education in basic education of schools implementing Montessori educational approach. Various schools in the world implementing Montessori approach was consulted in the study and subject contents of their program were investigated. Generally, Grace and Courtesy lessons is included in pre-school curriculum with differences from schools to school and between countries. However in primary school curriculum religion and values education is implemented under the special program named cosmic education and extra curricular activities.
