Abstract/Notes: Montessori is a learning method to stimulate children to reach their potential in all fields. In the field of reading literacy, one of the initial stages is how to stimulate initial reading skills, starting with introducing letters using the syllable learning method. The stimulation process must be in a fun and not boring way of playing exploration so that children will not feel that they are learning, especially in the current state of the Covid-19 pandemic, where the learning process becomes boring for children because it has to be done at home. The purpose of this research is to create a learning technology in the form of an electronic puzzle Montessori Sand Board Letter (SBL) for Indonesian syllables that can help stimulate early childhood according to the Montessori principle in recognizing syllables. The system development method uses the System Development Life-Cycle (SDLC) method. Based on the results of functional testing using the black box method, it states that all functional systems function 100% according to design and objectives. The results of testing and validation by Montessori practitioners stated that the system was in accordance with Montessori rules. Based on the results of usage observations, the Montessori Sand Board Letter (SBL) electronic puzzle for Indonesian syllables can be an alternative learning tool to introduce Indonesian syllables for the initial reading learning process.

Likewise, this approach is material based which enhances the learning and retention. This thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter deals with the introduction part including the background of the study, statements of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, relevance of the study, delimitation of the study, and operational definitions of the key terms respectively. The second chapter consists of a literature review both theoretical and empirical, and its implications. In addition, it also includes the conceptual framework. The third chapter deals with a methodology such as research design, method of the study, population, sampling strategy, research tools, source of data, and data collection procedure as well as ethical considerations. Similarly, the fourth chapter deals with analysis and interpretation of the data, and findings, and results. Finally, the fifth chapter incorporates a conclusion and recommendations based on the study which is related to policy, practice, and further research. Developing the Language of Young Disadvantaged Children

Available from: ERIC

Abstract/Notes: A modified approach to the development of verbal expression in young children is proposed as an alternative to either the prescriptive-instructional method or the developmental viewpoint which relies on self-initiated learning. The Bereiter-Engelmann method, the method based on operant conditioning, and the Montessori method are representative of the prescriptive-instructional theory which it is felt to inhibit expressive language. The developmental philosophy stresses a rich environment providing many varied opportunities from which a child selects his own activities. This method, however, does not stimulate his verbal expressive ability. The modified developmental approach which is discussed would encourage expressive language within a developmental context. The child's spontaneity, verbal responsiveness, and eagerness to be heard can be capitalized upon by adults who listen actively. Talk-oriented schools would foster learning that has intellectual, psychological, and social value. Some examples of classroom practice are included.

Abstract/Notes: This article is based on a study of an ‘English-medium’ preschool programme for underprivileged children. The diverse linguistic backgrounds of the teachers and students prompted an enquiry into how multiple languages would be negotiated in the setting and how comprehension, learning and communication would occur given that none of the children came from English-speaking homes. The article identifies and interprets key features of verbal language that were observed in the setting and articulates implications for educational practice.
