[The main objective of this study is to present the Completion Works of the Pedagogy Course that bring the contributions of the authors Maria Montessori and Paulo Freire to education in Universities in the greater Florianópolis region, verifying mainly the works that make reference to the concept of autonomy. This research presents the state of the art of academic productions involving Maria Montessori, Paulo Freire and the concept of autonomy in investigations carried out in public universities in greater Florianópolis. When carrying out the state of the art, we selected five TCCs that bring the aforementioned discussions, in a time frame from 2010 to 2020.1. In addition, the investigation presents the life and work of Maria Montessori and the life and work of Paulo Freire, as well as some notes with the contributions of each of these authors regarding the concept of autonomy. The result obtained in this research signaled how much Freire and Montessori can help in understanding the concept of autonomy, always considering the historical time and the lived reality of the subjects involved. Montessori, from an environment and prepared professionals, understands autonomy as an act of freedom to do. For Freire, autonomy is understood in a democratic way and as an emancipatory freedom. Therefore, from the selected studies, we can observe that autonomy can go beyond knowing how to do routine tasks of food and hygiene and, for subjects to be able to develop their autonomy, they need to exercise freedom of choice and participate in it, but for this, the teacher can also collaborate, in the sense of being committed to the emancipatory process of the human being.]
