Abstract/Notes: This study explored the effects of peer interactions on kindergarten children’s construction of conservation and conflict resolution knowledge during storybook reading. Previous studies have identified that peer interactions can support the meaning-making processes of children in social relationships and problem-solving, but little is known about whether the interaction with mixed-age or more competent peers is more important in supporting knowledge construction. Sixty-four younger children in K2 and older children in K3 with similar socioeconomic backgrounds were recruited from a Montessori kindergarten in Kunming, China. An experimental design was applied to explore age group and conserver dominance effects on conservation and conflict resolution. Children were assigned randomly to eight groups in three 30-to-40-minute intervention sessions. Each session had a different theme for the children to learn about conservation and conflict resolution concepts and a hands-on activity to practice and discuss. ANOVAs were performed to test group effects, while multiple regression analyses were conducted to explore individual variations in age and pre-test scores in predicting post-test scores. Conservation knowledge was significantly better among children who differed in age groups in the post-test, but differences were not found in conflict resolution knowledge. Groups balanced with equal conservers and non-conservers improved the best, suggesting that peer social interactions can facilitate conservation and conflict resolution construction. These results provide new insights for early childhood educators to support peer interactions and children’s development. Implications, limitations, and future research are discussed.

Abstract/Notes: Having been influenced by one's own environment, man lives and learns necessary things to survive. In particular, the knowledge of man can be accumulated by experience. The experience can be obtained by sensory education. Comenius recognised the importance of sense organ and became the first person to use audio-visual education in the time that theory and speech orientated education was common. And, Montessori has made sensory education popular by developing instruments of education for sensory education. The common ground of both is that education has been done by recognising the importance of obtaining knowledge through sensory education. In addition, obtaining knowledge can be done by restoring the nature of humanity, self-esteem and dignity. They have suggested scientific tools for education by making children obtain knowledge and experience through observing nature and objects. The difference is that while Comenius has been focused only on visual education based on epistemological experience, revealing its limitation, Montessori has developed various sensory tools and organised programme. It is noticed that new paradigms of learner oriented education are important It is challenged that recovering creativeness by respecting self-regulation is very much needed. The diversity of sensory education is sought to meet the felt need of education field.

Abstract/Notes: The Purpose of this study is, to practical application of MONTESSORI education system by comparing degrees of achievement according to age and sex, about offering five MONTESSORI SENSORY MATERIALS which children prefer. And consequently it can be offered as basic data for children of kindergarten of our country at present to appication each educational instrument in proper time according to children's achievements. For this study, randam sample ten 3-year-old boys and girls respectively, who have not any MONTESSORI educational experience at NOLIBANG in Taegu, and at S MONTESSORI KINDERGARTEN ten 4-year-old boys and girls respectively, who have 18 month's MONTESSORI educational experience. Two persons experimented on instruments such as CYLINDER BLOCKS, PINK WOWERS, BROWN STAIRS, COLOR TABLETS, SOUND BOXES which children of the kindergarten preferred, and recorded the results. To ascertain difference between age and sex, respecting achievement degress of MONTESSORI SENSORY MATERIALS, the obtained data was executed MANOVA using SPSS PC+. For verification, WILKS LAMBDA values were estimated and in the case of main effects being reliable, F-TEST and STRUCTURE COEFFICIENTS were measured. Conclusions of this study can be summarized as follows. First, according to age(3,4,5), there is difference in degrees of achievement of MONTESSORI SENSORY MATERIALS. With advancing years, degrees of achievement increase, and children of various age interact with one another, this is younger children observe the older ones and have indirect experience, and afterwards they can experience instruments in proper age. Second, there is not any difference in MONTESSORI SENSORY MATERIALS according to sex distinction. So we can offer SENSORY MATERIALS to children according to application age. Third, there is no disparity of age in sex distinction about achievement degrees of instruments are to be offered in order of age MONTESSORI SENSORY MATERIALS. That regardless of sex distinction. is, there isn't interaction of age and sex, so the instruments are to be offered in order of age regardless of sex distinction.
