Abstract/Notes: This study compared the motivation and quality of experience of demographically matched students from Montessori and traditional middle school programs. Approximately 290 students responded to the Experience Sampling Method (ESM) and filled out questionnaires. Multivariate analyses showed that the Montessori students reported greater affect, potency (i.e., feeling energetic), intrinsic motivation, flow experience, and undivided interest (i.e., the combination of high intrinsic motivation and high salience or importance) while engaged in academic activities at school. The traditional middle school students reported higher salience while doing academic work; however, such responses were often accompanied by low intrinsic motivation. When engaged in informal, nonacademic activities, the students in both school contexts reported similar experiences. These results are discussed in terms of current thought on motivation in education and middle school reform.

Abstract/Notes: The uniqueness of learning in elementary school Sto. Rosario Montessori School Philippines Using the k-12 curriculum, by imitating the United States model, namely the Cooperative Learning model and the Communicative Learning approach. The purpose of this study is to design a teacher-student interaction model for basic education in Indonesia. This model is designed with the benchmarking Sto. Rosario Montessori School, Philippines. This research approach uses a qualitative approach. With the research method of level 1 R&D studies. Then qualitative data processing and data analysis were carried out. Data analysis gives meaning to the data from observations, interviews, documentation, and literature studies that have been collected so that they get a very important meaning in a study. Analyzing qualitative data can be done by reducing data, displaying data, and data conclusions. The result of this research is the design of the teacher-student interaction model for elementary school students which contains the philosophy, concepts, mechanisms and general guidelines for the application of the model. The model in this study uses cooperative learning and communicative learning. (1) The philosophy of the model “students are unique creatures”; (2) The concept of the model: cases, individual conditions of students and solving cases faced by students; (3) The model mechanism: (a) Mapping of students’ conditions; (b) Teacher training on leadership patterns; (c) The teacher classifies the students’ condition; (d) implementation of teaching and learning; (4) General instructions for implementing the designed model.

Abstract/Notes: The purpose of this study was to describe the variables that contributed to the establishment of a charter school in an urban Arizona district and rural California district noting the similarities and dissimilarities, and to disclose the factors used to justify the implementation of the Montessori theory of education. Another purpose of the study was to describe the guidelines for maintaining a charter school, and the evaluation methods and factors used in the school's unique experience with staffing and funding. This research was descriptive and employed a case study approach. Descriptive research methodology was used to identify the same factors found in the Arizona study replicated by the researcher. Nonprobability, purposive sampling technique was the sampling used in the study. The instrument used for the study was interviews. Findings. The NFL/YET Academy in Arizona and Discovery Charter School in California experienced many similarities when the same variables were applied to both schools. As a result, the stakeholders of both schools used the principles of the organizational theory of empowerment to implement choices in curriculum. This process allowed the stakeholders an opportunity to meet the educational needs of students in the community. The following conclusions were made: (1) community empowerment plays a vital role in educating children; (2) the charter school movement allows parents, teachers, administrators, and community leaders to be involved in the creation of school governance and curriculum; and (3) charter schools allow all stakeholders to become involved in the decision-making process. The following are recommendations for further study: (1) This study should be conducted using a greater number of charter schools, and (2) This study should be conducted using administrator's leadership style in the organizational theory area of structure/roles.
