Abstract/Notes: From 1962 to 1965, Paul served on the board of directors of the American Montessori Society.Among many other positions, Paul served as president of the International Academy of Preventive Medicine, as a member of the Illinois Commission on Children, as assistant clinical professor of pediatrics at the Stritch School of Medicine at Loyola University, and on the staffs of St. Anne's, Oak Park, Loretto, and West Suburban Hospitals.

Abstract/Notes: Before co-founding the school, Miriam was a public school firstgrade teacher looking for inspiration.Since it was not readily available nearby, she underwent the correspondence course from the St. Nicholas Training Centre for the Montessori Method of Education, while at the same time doing her internship at the Montessori School of Huntsville.

Abstract/Notes: [...]in 2017, McDermott became the first recipient of the AMS Dr. Nancy McCormick Rambusch Pioneering Award, for his significant advances in raising the profile of Montessori education. McDermott gave hundreds of presentations worldwide and is the author-editor of many books, essays, and commentaries on the philosophy of culture-such as his introduction to Maria Montessori's Spontaneous Activity in Education.
