Abstract/Notes: The community center has a large classroom that housed a Head Start Program before that program moved to a public school. Providing for the educational and developmental needs of children in low-income housing and in neighborhoods that are economically depressed presents challenges both financial and logistical. [...]the results have been amazing! Even with the limited exposure to the Montessori environment, children have developed concentration, independence, care of self and the environment, social skills, and a love for art and music.

Abstract/Notes: La etapa de Montessori en la India fue uno de los periodos más enriquecedores en la vida de Maria Montessori. Allí escribió y publicó La Mente Absorbente del niño, y una serie de libros fundamentales. En su obra La educación de las potencialidades humanas desarrolló los principios de la “Educación Cósmica” que adaptó para el currículo de Primaria. Invitada en 1939 a dar unas conferencias en la India por el Presidente de la Sociedad Teosófica, Montessori y su hijo, se vieron atrapados por el estallido de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, y su posterior desarrollo. Tenía 69 años cuando llegó a Madrás. Permaneció diez años. Pero nada sería igual que antes. Había una Montessori antes de la India, y otra mucho más profunda después. Cuando regresaba a Europa declaró, a los que le preguntaban qué había hecho en la India: “creo que he aprendido a aprender, como el Niño”. [The decade Maria Montessori spent in India was one of the most enriching periods of her life. During that phase, she wrote and published The Absorbent Mind of the Child, as well as a number of fundamental books in her career. In The Education of Human Potentialities, she developed the principles of the “Cosmic Education”, a curriculum which she adapted for elementary students. Invited in 1939 to give lectures by the president of the Theosophical Society, Maria Montessori and her son were trapped by the outbreak of World War II and its subsequent development. She was 69 when she arrived to Madras. She stayed ten years. There was a Maria Montessori before India, and a much deeper one later. When she returned to Europe, when asked what she had done in India, she declared, “I think I’ve learned how to learn, as if I were a Child”.]

Abstract/Notes: The development of self-care skills in children is a part of the Core curriculum for preschool education. The contents regarding formation of such skills include shaping hygiene practices, goodhabits and developing motor skills. Maria Montessori drew attention to the development of selfcare skills and functional independence. In her concept of preschool child education, Maria Montessori developed practical life activities which were intended to serve the development of specificskills and their application to everyday life. Therefore, the aim of the research was to identify thelevel of self-care skills in 4-year-old children attending selected kindergartens located in MińskMazowiecki and Siedlce. The research was conducted on 200 children from Non-public CreativeActivity Montessori Kindergarten ‘Zameczek’ in Siedlce, Non-public Montessori Kindergarten‘Delfinek’ in Mińsk Mazowiecki and 6 traditional kindergartens — 2 of which were located inMińsk Mazowiecki and 4 located in Siedlce. The obtained research results indicated a varied levelof self-care skills depending on kindergarten the children attended.

Abstract/Notes: The final thesis deals with the use of Montessori materials in teaching English to young learners in a Montessori school. The aim of the final thesis is to investigate the possibilities of using originally designed Montessori materials with third graders in English classes and find out their impact on English teaching to these pupils. The theoretical part focuses on the Montessori method with emphasis on a prepared environment and Montessori materials. Characteristics of young learners and their ways of learning are introduced. The empirical part is approached as research where the emphasis is put on a detailed description of learning materials and reflection of their use in the Montessori classroom. / Závěrečná práce se zabývá využitím Montessori pomůcek ve výuce angličtiny u mladších žáků v Montessori škole. Cílem závěrečné práce je zjistit, jaké jsou možnosti využití originálně vytvořených Montessori pomůcek v hodinách angličtiny u žáků třetího ročníku a jaký mají vliv na výuku angličtiny u těchto žáků. Teoretická část práce se zabývá Montessori metodou, přičemž je kladen důraz na popis připraveného prostředí a Montessori pomůcek. Představena je také charakteristika mladších žáků a způsoby, jakými se učí. Empirická část je realizovaná pomocí výzkumu, ve kterém je kladen důraz na podrobný popis vytvořených pomůcek a reflexi jejich využití v Montessori třídě.
