Abstract/Notes: The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of teaching via Montessori approach, which is accepted among alternative education methods, on the academic achievement and math attitudes of students concerning the "Geometric Objects and Spatial Relationships" subject in 2nd grade math class. Experimental research method as used in the study is among quantitative research methods. The sample comprised an experimental group of 18 and a control group of 20 people who receive education in a public school in Kocaeli province Dilovası district during the 2019-2020 academic year. The "Traditional Education Method" was used for the control group students, while the "Montessori Education Method" was used for the experimental group students. The study focused on acquisitions discussed in applications performed via the Montessori method. Following the application process the study reapplied the assessment tools given to the students in the pretest. The math lesson achievement test and attitude test were used as data collection tools. The data acquired in both groups was compared and statistically analyzed. As a consequence the students in the classroom where the Montessori method was applied, had higher scores than the control group. Also girls maths attitude scores were found to be higher in experiment group. The dissertation study determined that the Montessori education method has a positive impact on both academic achievement and math attitude. Therefore, Montessori method and materials are implicated as an alternative and effective method for also primary schools and teachers should be couraged to use this method in their classrooms. Keywords: Montessori approach, math ability, math attitude. / Bu araştırmanın amacı, ilkokul 2. Sınıf matematik dersinde "Geometrik Cisimler ve Uzamsal İlişkiler" konusunda, alternatif eğitim yöntemlerinden biri olarak kabul edilen Montessori yaklaşımı ile öğretimin, öğrencilerin akademik başarılarına ve matematik dersine olan tutumlarına etkisini incelemektir. Çalışmada yöntem olarak nicel araştırma yöntemlerinden olan yarı deneysel araştırma yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Örneklem; 2019-2020 eğitim öğretim yılında, Kocaeli ili Dilovası ilçesinde bir devlet okulunda öğrenim görmekte olan 18 kişilik deney ve 20 kişilik kontrol grubundan oluşmaktadır. Kontrol grubundaki öğrencilerde "Programa Dayalı Eğitim Yöntemi" kullanılırken, deney grubundaki öğrencilerde "Montessori Eğitim Yöntemi" kullanılmıştır. Montessori yöntemiyle yapılan uygulamalarda ele alınan kazanımlara odaklanılmış ve uygulama sürecinin ardından öğrencilere öntestte verilen ölçme araçları tekrar uygulanmıştır. Veri toplama aracı olarak ise Matematik Dersi Başarı Testi ve Tutum Testi kullanılmıştır. Her iki grupta da elde edilen veriler karşılaştırılmış ve istatistiksel olarak analiz edilmiştir. Sonuçta Montessori yöntemiyle uygulama yapılan sınıftaki öğrencilerin puanlarının kontrol grubuna göre daha yüksek olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Yapılan bu tez çalışması ile Montessori eğitim yönteminin, hem akademik başarıya hem de matematik dersine olan tutuma yönelik etkisinin olumlu yönde olduğu saptanmıştır. Bu bakımdan okullarda Montessori yaklaşımını benimsemiş sınıflar oluşturulmasının, öğretmenlerin ve okul idarecilerinin bu konuda bilgilendirilmesinin ve teşvik edilmesinin yarar sağlayacağı düşünülebilir. Abstract/Notes: This article concerns Maria Montessori’s relationships with the Catholic world: in particular with members of Religious Congregations, from 1904 to 1924. Montessori wanted to found a religious Institute of Children’s Teachers, dedicated to educating according to her Method. The essay reconstructs the supports and oppositions that Maria Montessori had among the Jesuits. And the polemics by the anti-modernists against the Method. A favorable moment occurred with Pope Benedict XV . But a turning point came with Pius XI.

Abstract/Notes: This text presents a theoretical analysis of Maria Montessori’s concept of cognitive autonomy, defined as a process of gaining power and control over one’s own thinking and learning, building the ability to regulate its course and evaluate the results of learning. The main aim of the article is to present the cognitive potential included in M. Montessori’s pedagogical thinking, the undiscovered dimensions of her concepts, and the unusual actuality confirmed by the latest research results. The first part of the article presents the constructive nature of the learning process based on self-discipline, the internal ability to regulate one’s own impulses, and control them consciously. The second part of the article presents contemporary interpretations of Maria Montessori’s concepts, provided by researchers and teachers- practitioners from the perspective of new psychological and pedagogical achievements. The evolution in the thinking of Montessori teachers is seen here as being a sensitive balance, with the “purity” of Montessori’s original ideas on the one hand, and a critical reflection over one’s own personal teaching practice, and discovering problems or phenomena, which – although unnamed – are deeply rooted in the Montessori classroom environment. / Artykuł jest teoretyczną analizą montessoriańskiej koncepcji autonomii (samodzielności) poznawczej dziecka, rozumianej jako stopniowe zdobywanie kontroli nad własnym uczeniem się, budowanie zdolności do regulowania jego przebiegu i oceny efektów. Głównym celem jest ukazanie potencjału poznawczego zawartego w myśli pedagogicznej Marii Montessori, głębi jej koncepcji pedagogicznej, a zarazem zaskakującej aktualności założeń, które znajdują potwierdzenie w wynikach współczesnych badań nad uczeniem się. W pierwszej części tekstu ukazano uczenie się jako proces konstruktywistyczny, oparty na zdolności do samodyscypliny, wewnętrznego regulowania własnych impulsów, poddawania ich świadomej kontroli. W drugiej części artykułu ukazano współczesne interpretacje koncepcji M. Montessori, dokonywane przez badaczy i nauczycieli praktyków, pod wpływem najnowszych badań psychologicznych. Przedstawiona tu ewolucja poglądów nauczycieli charakteryzuje się z jednej strony dbałością o „czystość” montessoriańskiej idei, z drugiej zaś krytyczną refleksją nad własną praktyką edukacyjną i odkrywaniem w niej idei i problemów, które – choć nienazwane – tkwią głęboko zakorzenione w przygotowanym do samodzielnego uczenia się otoczeniu klasy Montessori.

Abstract/Notes: This contribution aims to reconstruct the network of national and international relations which contributed to the return of Maria Montessori to Italy in May 1947 and to the establishment of a Centro di Studi Pedagogici in order to create the conditions for a permanent residence of the scientist in her country. The reconstitution of the Opera Nazionale Montessori and the activities of its president Maria de Unterrichter Jervolino in collaboration with leading personalities of Italian political and cultural life and with the ‘historical’ students of Montessori are placed in this context. / Aquesta contribució pretén reconstruir la xarxa de relacions nacionals i internacionals que van contribuir al retorn de Maria Montessori a Itàlia el maig de 1947 i a la creació del Centro di Studi Pedagogici per tal de crear les condicions per a una residència permanent de la científica al seu país. La reconstitució de l’Opera Nazionale Montessori i les activitats de la seva presidenta Maria de Unterrichter Jervolino en col·laboració amb personalitats destacades de la vida política i cultural italiana i amb els estudiants ‘històrics’ de Montessori se situen en aquest context. / Esta contribución tiene como objetivo reconstruir la red de relaciones nacionales e internacionales que contribuyó al regreso de Maria Montessori a Italia en mayo de 1947 y al establecimiento del Centro di Studi Pedagogici con el fin de crear las condiciones para una residencia estable de la científica en su país. En este contexto se sitúan la reconstitución de la Opera Nazionale Montessori y las actividades de su presidenta Maria de Unterrichter Jervolino en colaboración con destacadas personalidades de la vida política y cultural italiana y con las alumnas ‘históricas’ de Montessori.
