The Montessori method seems to be well established in the landscape of alternative pedagogies today. Its particularities: a heritage of the Progressive Education, a rupture of the formal schooling, but also through the intermediary of a mediating material, a change in the educational relationship between adults and children. How can it be qualified? What are its specificities, its invariants? Because it is based on values related to the development of the student, to his capacities, to his successes; but also on a very particular role of the adult educator, sufficiently step back in order not to disturb the pupil, while being a resource, a crutch, a source of motivation to start working, this method seems, for these reasons, to contribute to the well-being of the student in school. Should it be an educational ethic based on empathy? It is by putting into perspective some writings of the pedagogue with examples of class situations that we propose to reflect on this question, by adopting a research posture that mixes textual hermeneutics and ethnographic observation.

Abstract/Notes: Niniejszy artykuł przedstawia główne cechy praktyki mindfulness i stara się wskazać analogię do niektórych aspektów dotyczących dydaktyki edukacji wczesnoszkolnej. / This text presents the main characteristics of mindfulness practice and seeks to draw a parallel among some aspects of didactics for early childhood education. Research suggests that mindfulness practice has had a positive impact on the adult population. While surveys on the use of mindfulness with children are scarce at present, this type of research is increasing among educators and psychologists targeting primary school level and beyond. In this article, we present the methods by which mindfulness practice can be applied in the teaching of nursery and pre-primary school children. In some instances, there is evidence that activities present in the Montessori Method can be borrowed and developed in accordance with the principles of the Mindfulness training. This article outlines how typical activities, such as sensory-motor practice, selective attention exercises and the exercises of practical life can be applied in the mindfulness training. Teacher training is another aspect to consider when applying mindfulness practice in the nursery school classroom.

[The laudable participation of Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky in the Austrian resistance during the Second World War is not subject of this article but her and her contribution to architecture. Her projects are meant to be functional and oriented to dignify space, ranging from designing social housing, laundries to cooking schools. However, her core work is focused on the construction of schools planned according to the pedagogic perspective of Maria Montessori.]
