Abstract/Notes: Maura Joyce's clear approach to initiating parent education is to recognize where the parents are on their own journey as parents. By listening to the parents' hopes, fears, and desired outcomes for their children acknowledges the family's perspective and brings mutuality into a shared community. Maura Joyce encourages the use of questionnaires and feedback and gives specific exercises to implement parent education, open communication, and ease parents' anxieties. Learning Processes of Highly Gifted Children in the Free Work of the Montessori Method - an Empirical Analysis on the Basis of Individual Case Studies in Montessori Primary Schools
See More
Abstract/Notes: The beginnings of the dissertation by Esther Grindel, holder of the Montessori diploma and former assistant at the Montessori Centre, also date back to this time. The survey analyses in an empirical way how and under which conditions highly gifted primary school children can learn according to their individual competencies and needs in the periods of Free Work, which is a characteristic way of learning in the Montessori Method. On the basis of four descriptive case studies of highly gifted students of a Montessori primary school typical structures of their ways of learning during the Montessori Free Work are investigated in a comparative analysis. The results, which are discussed in the context of current findings of the research on high abilities, are of great interest to both the Montessori schools and for the fostering at regular schools. A publication of the work as part of the series “Impulses of New Education” is in preparation.

Abstract/Notes: This paper is aimed to present the analysis of the current situation of the studies on the Montessori Method in primary schools. This study adopted a meta-synthesis design to interpret and evaluate the qualitative findings of the studies and to point out their similarities and differences to make further interpretations. Data collection started on August 1, 2020 was completed May 30, 2021. The sample consisted of 16 studies. The data were analyzed using inductive content analysis. The studies were summarized under the headings of subject matter, design, data collection tools, objective/significance, results and recommendations. As for subject matters, the studies did an in-depth analysis of the Montessori Method, examined school atmosphere, provided detailed information on learning environments, and compared the Montessori Method to other models. The studies employed data triangulation to ensure credibility and consistency. The samples of the studies consisted of first-grade students, teachers, and documents. The studies did not address the Montessori Method in different branches. The Montessori Method has something in common with other methods, which is “World Citizenship.” The Montessori Method is based on individual assessment. The findings were discussed throughly literature and various suggestions were made.
