Abstract/Notes: Emily Shubitz appreciates the Nido and all of its facets and is well aware of the pioneers--Adele Costa Gnocchi and Silvana Montanaro--as she emphasizes the Nido being a developmental force rather than just a babysitting source. Her list for creating a Nido environment is thoughtful, extensive, and inclusive: home-like wood furniture, soft rugs, and custom shelves. She stresses that individualized movement in multi-age groups creates rich interactions, such as when snacks are served at a small table, parents help in the Nido, and children nap at different times. Toilet training is a step to early independence, and cloth diapers are preferred. Emily Shubitz emphasizes the importance of the Nido, where children begin life challenged but willingly work to their potential. Abstract/Notes: Describes the benefits of including the ninth grade within the 3-year multi-age group setting within a Montessori farm school. Notes how seventh, eighth, and ninth grades work together in one family cluster, allowing 15-year-olds to avoid the pecking order of the high school freshman year while developing personal leadership, confidence, and a cognitive maturity, which in turn allows them to provide a higher standard of productivity, perseverance, and socialization. Experiences of Egyptian Youth Participating in Discipleship and Mentoring Groups After Attending an Evangelical Youth Camp in Egypt

Abstract/Notes: Spiritual development plays a vital role in young people’s psychological health and wellness, and spiritual awareness is beneficial in developing morals and coping strategies when dealing with real-life situations (Lee et al., 2020). A lack of scholarly literature addressing the spiritual growth of Egyptian youth involved in evangelical camps and now living for Christ in a predominately Muslim society prompted this study. This qualitative narrative study was based on the theoretical framework of social constructivism pioneered by Vygotsky. The research participants were four Egyptian youth who had attended a Christian camp, made the life-changing decision to follow Christ, and were involved in a discipleship and mentorship program after camp. All interviews were conducted in English and Arabic using Zoom video conferencing and were recorded and transcribed using the Otter.ai transcription application in English. The four Egyptian youth shared detailed information about their lived experiences during and after camp to provide stories about the spiritual discipleship program with mentors after camp. Data was collected, verified for accuracy by the participants, then coded and analyzed to reveal four emergent themes. The themes were, Egyptian life, the participants’ spiritual experience at camp, discipleship with mentors after camp, and recommendations for future camps. Findings from this study suggested spiritual discipleship and mentorship played a significant part in the participants’ spiritual growth after camp.

Abstract/Notes: Masalah dalam Penelitian ini Adakah pengaruh penggunaan media sandpaper letters terhadap pengenalan huruf pada anak kelompok B di PAUD Jaya Henida Palembang?. Penelitian ini bertujuan Untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan media sandpaper letters terhadap pengenalan huruf anak kelompok B di PAUD Jaya Henida Palembang. Metode penelitian yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini adalah dokumentasi. Berdasarkan penelitian yang telah dilakukan di PAUD Jaya Henida Palembang, maka dapat ditarik beberapa kesimpulan sebagai berikut : 1) Kemampuan keaksaraan anak PAUD pada umumnya telah mencapai perkembangan normal dalam tahap kemunculan literasi, meliputi kemampuan dengar – bicara dan baca – tulis; 2) Kendala dan kebutuhan guru dalam pengembangan keaksaraan, diantaranya kurangnya peralatan dan materi, buku sumber, sarana dan fasilitas yang memadai; 3) Desain pengembangan keaksaraan di fokuskan pada kegiatan menstimulus kemunculan kemampuan dengar – bicara baca – tulis sesuai dengan tahap perkembangan anak PAUD; 4) Cara mengembangkan alat peraga sandpaper letter berbasis metode Montessori yaittu sebagai berikut : pertama, alat peraga menarik. Kedua, alat peraga memiliki gradasi. Ketiga, alat peraga digunakan untuk dapat melatih anak belajar secara mandiri. Keempat, alat peraga digunakan untuk mengetahui kesalahan yang terjadi dengan adanya alat peraga.

Positive Socialization in an Educational Inclusion Group of a Montessori Elementary School

Abstract/Notes: The purpose of the present work was to foster positive socialization in a multilevel group of a Montessori elementary school comprised by 20 students between 9 and 12 years old and many students with Special Education Needs. Positive socialization refers to the group of behaviors to aid the more vulnerable and concern for the others (Rudolph, 2000). It is important to nurture these behaviors during the school age since this is the stage where students require them to foster healthy coexistence and cooperation, as well as respect for differences and diversity among peers, which is closely related to educational inclusion, which premise is to make a school for all, for which the creation of spaces where coexistence and differences acceptance are nurtured taking into account the needs of each student (Romera, 2008). The Elementary Education Syllabus in Mexico mentions the inclusion principle, which emphasizes the teaching of values, attitudes and behaviors towards helping the others (Secretary of Public Education, 2011). Under this perspective, a traditional empirical quantitative applied field study was conducted. The design was of only one group, with two pretest-posttest measurings in which also 5 teachers participated in the group activities. The group was assessed in Positive socialization by means of the Socialization Battery BAS-3 by Silva and Martorell (1987) which defines a child’s profile by five factors. The pretest results indicated five subjects obtained a scoring below the mean value in the Concern for the others scale, this meant the subjects had little social sensitivity or concern for others. In addition, the Inclusive Practices in the Classroom Evaluation Guideline in its observation and self-report version by Garcia, Romero and Escalante (2009) was applied, which allowed to measure the levels of educational inclusion in the group. The results determined that four teachers obtained a scoring below the mean value in the planning area scale. Based on the pretest results obtained from both instruments, an intervention program was designed based on the Cooperative play proposal by Garaigordobil (2004), to foster prosocial behaviors, while the decision taking according to the students’ needs were worked with the teachers. At the end of the intervention, a posttest was applied to the group and the results indicated a significant increment in the positive socialization, especially, the behaviors towards helping the others in the students with the lowest scores from the pretest; teachers planning also improved to achieve a more inclusive environment in the group. The results were validated with the non-parametric Wilcoxon test using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software.
