Abstract/Notes: For years, the traditional school system did not meet the needs of students. Parents founded schools to allow children to move away from the rigid class-subject-hour system. Founders of alternative schools can be citizens, parents and teachers, religious communities and other legal entities. These are the so-called free schools, civic education initiatives, pedagogical reform attempts, educational boarding schools, etc. The goals of this paper are to present the pedagogical concepts and ideas of schools in the Republic of Croatia that were founded by parents. The paper presents the basic pedagogical principles and teaching aspects of Waldorf and Montessori pedagogy based on educational pluralism, a brief overview of the partnership between parents and schools in Croatia and the educational model of the Catholic primary schools "Ružičnjak" and "Lotrščak". The observed schools are located in Zagreb and have only one goal - to adapt the school to the child. We try to provide each student with an individual approach. The starting points are the child's needs and interests. These are schools where students have freedom of choice. The goal of education is the holistic development of the child. Emphasis is placed on active learning methods and abandoning didactic scenarios in which the child is only a passive observer.

Abstract/Notes: The primary objective of this study was to analyze the level of parents' satisfaction with the behaviour and roles of office staffs, receptionists, and roles of teachers. This study has applied the quantitative approach along with the survey method. The survey instrument was used to collect two hundred (N =200) data from the parents of Montessori schools in Gaindakot 1 and 2, Nawalpur. Random sampling was used to select the parents of Montessori schools. The results show positive association between the behaviour and roles of office staff, receptionists, and parents, satisfaction. Similarly, the results show a negative association between the facilities of Montessori schools, the influence of Montessori quality and behaviour and the roles of Montessori teachers. This study has concluded that there was an association between the quality of Montessori education and parental satisfaction. This study's implications would benefit new researchers, scholars, colleges, local government, Montessori schools, school administrators and owners and investors of private schools in Nepal.

Abstract/Notes: Research on privileged parents, defined here as those with the economic, social, and educational resources to navigate school choice processes to their advantage, often depicts such parents as anxious about maintaining social mobility, leading them to “opportunity hoard” desirable or academically competitive schools in ways that exclude other families. In contrast, we identify a subset of privileged parents in urban settings that we term “happiness-oriented parents” who seek schools that prioritize their child’s social-emotional happiness. Using a qualitative meta-analysis combining seven studies conducted by the authors in New York City; Hartford, Connecticut; and a small East Coast city between 2012 and 2021, we reanalyzed interview data from semistructured interviews with 106 privileged parents who have the ability to access and navigate a range of school choice options. We found a happiness orientation in a diverse group of privileged parents (40% identified as Black, Latinx, Asian American, or multiracial, and the remaining 60% were white). Although these parents were choosing a range of school options in different contexts and they identified different criteria as important to cultivating happiness, they consistently (1) centered happiness, (2) chose for social-emotional and noncompetitive academic factors, and (3) saw this choice as different from the norm. In identifying this repeated but understudied phenomenon, we consider that happiness-oriented parents’ choices might affect a range of education policy changes and outcomes. In the case of our studies, we examine the potential of these parents as allies in school integration efforts.
