Abstract/Notes: Montessori Method and its practices can sometimes seem difficult and complex to understand, even for parents whose children are attending a Montessori school. It is also unclear why parents send their 4-6 years old children to schools that implement the Montessori Method. For this reason, the current study aimed to determine the reasons for parents to choose a Montessori school. In this study, which was carried out with the parents of children enrolled in a school that implements the Montessori Method in Konya, 30 parents were interviewed with the semi-structured interview technique. The results of the research show that parents prefer the Montessori school as it provides a free environment, allows one to one education, offers a great variety of materials and enhances self-confidence and sense of responsibility in children. They also think that the school encourages children to be self-confident, free-spirited and happy and to make their own decisions. It has been observed that parents care more to certain features of Montessori education philosophy such as individual education, free ambient, material and classroom environment.

Abstract/Notes: The Società Umanitaria of Milan, between 1918 and 1923, played an essential role in spreading and developing the Montessori Method. Studying in the Historical Archive of Società Umanitaria the numerous documents there collected, the author reconstructed the crucial moments of the extremely significant collaboration between Maria Montessori and Augusto Osimo, General Secretary of the Società Umanitaria. This complex and in-depth investigation was guided by the analysis, in specific, of the training courses for Montessori teachers organised by Società Umanitaria, essentially unexamined before this study, that allowed the researcher to have a deep insight into the action of Società Umanitaria aimed to promote and implement the Montessori Method in Italy and all around the world.

Abstract/Notes: In accordance with the constructivist concept of didactics, the teacher’s duty is to support students in acquiring tools for understanding the world and building resources of their own knowledge and skills. On the other hand, the task of education is to help each individual in developing his ability to become a holistic human being, not just a tool for economics. The charge directed most often towards the Polish school is failure to perform this task, which is manifested by the poor preparation of young people to live and work, to the development challenges, but also the threats of the modern world. It is worth looking for solutions that will create opportunities for children and young people to develop according to their abilities. One of such solutions has the pedagogy of Maria Montessori emphasizing the importance of the child’s activity in the process of learning. The article compared briefly the hebratism with the trend of “new upbringing” to which Maria Montessori’s pedagogy is included, and further considerations have been referred to the modern knowledge of how the brain is taught.
