Abstract/Notes: This article looks at the common ground between Montessorian and more traditional approaches to early childhood education. The author refers to ideas put forward by Dr E M Hallowell which suggest that early childhood educators focus on concepts such as playfulness, practice, mastery and reconnection; these concepts hold the key to raising children with healthy self-esteem, moral awareness and spiritual values. The author points out the similarities these psychological goals have with those a Montessori educator and a traditional early childhood educator aim for. She describes the approach taken at the Benevolent Society centre, which caters for babies and children up to five years. General Montessori principles are used, such as less is more -decluttering the children's personal space and giving them options for exploration; and spoken language - the process of interacting with children on a daily basis as the most fundamental step in building trusting relationships. The four vital areas of focus that keep re-appearing in any program written at the centre are cognitive development, fine motor development, gross motor development and social interaction. [In this book, Jutta Hollander first presents the essential principles of Maria Montessori's pedagogy in childhood and adolescence. In a next step, she deals with the question to what extent these guidelines can also be transferred to the entire lifespan. She focuses on the age phase and looks for possibilities of a convergent approach between Montessori pedagogy and gerontology. In this way, an approach is created that brings together more than 100 years of experience with Maria Montessori's pedagogy with the currently pressing demographic issues. How this idea can finally find its way into the various areas of gerontology - especially in geragogics, and how this potential can be developed and used in practice, is shown using the example of the household community.]

Abstract/Notes: The article is a presentation of a model of work with the elderly based on the principles of Maria Montessori pedagogy. The described model provides support for elderly people (also with cognitive deficits) not only in retaining maximum independence and highest possible level of intellectual functions, but also in their development through success-focused learning. Chosen elements adopted from Maria Montessori’s pedagogy such as prepared environment, specific didactic materials, and teacher/companion enable the classes’ participants to learn with joy, enjoying autonomy, respect and dignity. Zaadaptowane z pedagogiki Marii Montessori wybrane elementy, m.in. przygotowane otoczenie, specyficzne materiały dydaktyczne, osoba nauczyciela/ towarzysza dają uczestnikom zajęć możliwość uczenia się z radością, poczuciem autonomii, szacunku i godności.
