Abstract/Notes: The final thesis deals with the use of Montessori materials in teaching English to young learners in a Montessori school. The aim of the final thesis is to investigate the possibilities of using originally designed Montessori materials with third graders in English classes and find out their impact on English teaching to these pupils. The theoretical part focuses on the Montessori method with emphasis on a prepared environment and Montessori materials. Characteristics of young learners and their ways of learning are introduced. The empirical part is approached as research where the emphasis is put on a detailed description of learning materials and reflection of their use in the Montessori classroom.

Abstract/Notes: Madam Montessori believed that training and sharpening of the child’s senses are crucial for their continued learning; she, therefore, developed specific sensorial materials to be used in Montessori preschools for such a purpose. The Montessori Method of education is a system of education for young children that seeks to spread natural interests and activities rather than use formal teaching methods. Maria Montessori exhibited Various Teaching-Learning Aids for refining the senses called sensorial materials. Sensorial training/learning is a teaching approach that stimulates the child’s five senses; taste, touch, smell, sight, and hearing. It allows children to use their senses to explore and understand the world around them. It includes activities that assist them to study objects, colors, textures, tastes, numbers, and situations. This article addresses the knowledge and understanding needed by teachers working with children on the autism spectrum. Montessori methods are very operative in developing effective teaching-learning aid for sensory training. Effective practice depends largely on an understanding of autism and of the individual child rather than on specialist skills. It will explain how children with autism develop the sensory issues in various Teaching-Learning Aids and to boost children express, classify and enlarge their sensory experiences with the help of the Montessori Method.

Abstract/Notes: Reading is the basis for mastering various fields of study. Slow learners generally fail to understand basic lessons and concepts in academics, such as reading, writing, mathematics and language. This is because the above processes require a fairly complicated cognition process. So in overcoming obstacles to learning to read at the beginning of slow learners, a reading technique is needed that suits the needs of children. One of the reading techniques that can be used is the Montessori technique which is based on the Montessori method. The objectives of this study are as follows: (1) Knowing the stages of the process of developing an initial reading program for slow learners with Montessori techniques (2) Knowing the feasibility of developing an initial reading program for slow learners with Montessori techniques. The research method used in this study is a mixed research method. The final product of this study resulted in a beginning reading learning program with Montessori techniques consisting of products: (1) initial reading identification and assessment format (2) Learning program plan (3) Guidebook for teachers (4) Student worksheets (5) Module on Montessori reading techniques that have been modified for slow learner children. Based on research findings, data analysis and theoretical discussion, it can be concluded that the application of the beginning reading program in slow learners with Montessori techniques is feasible because it suits the needs of children and is able to improve initial reading skills. This program also helps teachers to know the stages of making individual learning programs for students with special needs.

Abstract/Notes: TAVET programs are run by the government, which will be opportunity for development and preparing workforce expected for the financial inspire of this country. Objectives of this study were to analyze the role of email management, online research, social media management and online collaboration on learners’ skills development and to recommend appropriate for skill development in technical and vocational institutes. Researcher carried out study on “Role of Email Management, Online Research, Social Media Management and Online Collaboration in Learners’ Skills Development in TAVET”. Use and effectiveness of ICT is also equally important in TAVET. Study was survey type and descriptive in nature. Quantitative technique was adopted. Population of the study comprised all instructors and students of TAVET in Sadiqabad. After carrying out research all the teachers and students have agreed on the use and need of ICT facilities in TAVET. Study recommended that use of ICT may be increased in TAVET and teaching staff may be trained and ICT facilities may be provided in TAVET.

Book Title: Creating Dynamic Places for Learning: An Evidence Based Design Approach

Abstract/Notes: This chapter provides an overview of a sociohistorical perspective for the design of school buildings in the USA. Underscoring this overview are questions about how educational practice and research can provide insight to the interior spatial design of these buildings. To ground the concepts about education, practice, and interior spatial design of learning environments, Montessori, Central Park East Public School and Big Picture Learning Australia are proposed as exemplary educational programs. By providing these international educational programs, this chapter showcases how and why the design of schools can be imagined. To buttress the ideas promoted by these educational programs, Optimal Learning Theory (Csikszentmihalyi in, Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience, Harper and Row, 1990), Situated Learning theory (Lave and Wenger in, Situated learning, Cambridge University Press, 1991), and Osmond’s Theory (Doubleday, 1966) on seating arrangements, sociopetal, and sociofugal are introduced. Building on theory and practice in the field of education and environmental psychology, this chapter provides recommendations for crafting the physical environment to encourage learning.

A Student-Centered Approach to Teaching Mathematics to English Language Learners in the Montessori Classroom
Available from: MINDS@UW River Falls

Abstract/Notes: Making math instruction accessible to students can be a challenge, particularly when students have limited English proficiency. This paper explores how teachers can best suit the needs of their non-native English speakers when teaching math. Teacher affect, visuals and translanguaging are used in this study in an attempt to boost student confidence and academic progress. These strategies result in an increase in student confidence and engagement, as measured by a math attitude survey as well as observation data. Centered around a Montessori classroom, this paper shows how aspects of the Montessori philosophy cater to English learners and suggests additional supports that may be beneficial.

Abstract/Notes: The research sought to find information that provides solutions for teaching reading fluency among grade one learners in distance education to identify the underlying factors that affect the teaching and learning process in Pulangbato Elementary School, Quiot Elementary School, and Maria Montessori International School, Cebu, Philippines. This research delved into the experiences of the parents' personal opinions concerning learners' reading habits and fluency at home, teachers’ opinion survey on reading, how parents' involvement affects learners' reading fluency, and parents' and teachers' challenges in teaching reading to learners on distance learning. It employed a Qualitative-Phenomenological method with 18 teachers and 18 parents from 3 different schools as participants. The researchers utilized an interpretative phenomenological analysis with the help of a survey questionnaire to determine the experiences of both participants, the parents, and teachers. The results of the study revealed that both participants, the parents, and the teachers, are still trying their best to adapt to the new normal set-up of learning, distance education. The parents favor having face-to-face classes for they are not confident with their ways of teaching, especially in teaching reading fluency among their learners. In addition, they are having difficulty balancing their work and, at the same time, teaching their learners.
