Abstract/Notes: Defining what it means to be in the "bosom of nature," to use Montessori's words, Laurie Ewert-Krocker points out that the adolescent period of storm and stress is quelled by the natural world. But most important, when socialization is the essential developmental focus of the young adolescent, positive social organization is fostered by nature. The dialogue between nature and the human-built world is a conversation well worth having, leading to a profound understanding of what it means to use both the imagination and sensorial understanding to contribute to the world's safekeeping. Abstract/Notes: This action research paper aimed to identify the benefits of parent informational classes within the Montessori method. Parents participated in three informational sessions. The sessions discussed Montessori philosophy and each of the core areas in the Montessori classroom. Data was measured using pre-and post-surveys, allowing parents to elaborate on their understanding. Parents were also able to provide questions and feedback regarding areas they desired to learn more. Parents expressed that the informative classes provided them a better understanding of the Montessori philosophy and provided ideas for incorporating the method into their homes. The research concluded the importance of involving and educating parents on their child’s method of education. Further research should include a more extensive and more diverse group of parents or involve multiple schools to see the impact on parent involvement and student success. Upon this research, we will prioritize educating parents on the importance of the Montessori philosophy.

The Montessori Theory in the “No Schoolbag” Model. Formativity of Materials and of the Educational Environment

Abstract/Notes: The aim of this contribution is to show the “outdated” relevance of Montessori pedagogy in the “No Schoolbag” (Senza Zaino, or “SZ”) model. Adopting some fundamental elements of Montessori’s activism, this model advocates a school in the fullest meaning of Scholè, as a place for dialogue, development and work, otium and negotium, commitment to study and the pleasure of knowledge, where the discipline of freedom, as applied to experience and filtered by emotions, is indispensable. In doing so, it rejects the idea of school being based on educational intellectualism. Rather it is an indirect educational path in which the experience of reality, rather than empty words, shapes the child's mind, developing an inner order that originates from its external counterpart, with the result that the child feels like an active participant, belonging to a welcoming, hospitable and motivating community. Drawing on the Montessori theory, the “No Schoolbag” model positions itself as a pedagogy of our time, but endowed with an ancient, rigorous, inclusive, and supportive heart.
