Abstract/Notes: The latter, a scientific description of anthropological observational methods, with a wide range of citations from noted anthropologists, biologists, and geneticists, demonstrates Montessori's in-depth knowledge of much of the then-current literature and heavily emphasizes the theories of her former professor, Giuseppe Sergi, who claimed the Mediterranean race as the "greatest race in the world" (Wikipedia, 2018). Montessori's letters, unlike her books and other academic publications, brim with pride, awe, insecurity, and the innermost feelings of a close daughter/father relationship that belie the original myths of tension arising from her decision to study medicine. [...]the expectation of widespread acceptance of her method, coupled with waning Italian interest and a chance to exhibit the method in a model school to some of the most important names in education, persuaded her to come to the Panama-Pacific International Exhibition, in California, where she remained for quite some time.
