The purpose of the article is to highlight the role played by certain types of game in Montessori. In particular, it seeks to highlight the lack of understanding of the role of symbolic play in the early years of children’s lives, creating a real paradox in the Montessori system despite her observation of children in school and natural contexts. Montessori has advocated a view to proposing a pedagogy with scientific bases, but she has been unable to integrate the symbolic play in its pedagogical proposal. I also try to outline her substantial correlation with Dewey in the description of a type of intelligent activity that originates from a child’s interest in respect of an environmental stimulus on which he is able to maintain a sustained concentration, however Montessori maintains a deep distance from Dewey in terminology, who calls this activity “game”, while she, instead, “work.” I give an account of the positive role that have the playful activities and the playful attitude (playfulness) in the Montessori method and of the importance of sensorimotor games and rulegames. The analysis shows that Montessori has been able to integrate the playful dimension of human activity in the teaching/learning process through a general recognition of the playful activity, despite misunderstandings and paradoxes about the symbolic play and on the very definition of play.

Abstract/Notes: The goal of the present study was to investigate the effects of the Montessori educational theory on the field of the early childhood education in terms of the educational philosophy. To do that, the theories including Frobel, Dewey, and Piaget were compared to the Montessori theory as ways to understand its role in the development of the educational theory. The guideline developed by Braun & Edward(1972) was used to compare and analyze the theoreandal components (e.g., a view of children, teachers, and learning) in each theory. The major findings of this study and suggestions for the further study were discussed.

[The present dissertation seeks to identify tactics and strategies used in the process of implementing the montessori-lubienska method at Colégio Sion in Curitiba, between 1956 and 1959. The construction of this historiographic narrative presents the french theoretical Michel de Certeau as an articulating theoretical axis, with its concepts of place, strategy and tactics, from the intersection of sources of different types collected in the archives of the College and in external instances; and dialogue with academic publications that address the themes and the context, at the Brasil and state of Paraná. The research results show that under an atmosphere marked in Paraná by previous initiatives related to the Montessori method, the Catholic option and initiatives by the montessori-lubienska method as a way out of the clash between Catholics and renovators, combined with the training that Soeur Maria Cristina had received from Lubienska in France, they allowed the sisters of Curitiba by means of cunning strokes to organize tactics to guarantee the montessori-lubienska method as a strategy from Colégio Sion.]

Abstract/Notes: As one of many contemporary educational reform strategies, the charter school movement has expanded opportunities for educators, children and parents to pursue environments that suit their personal values and predispositions. This project invited teachers to share their experiences working in a unique charter school environment. It examined how teachers described and conceptualized their experiences as professional educators in a public Montessori charter school. Two research questions guided the work as a whole: (1) How do teachers working in this unique charter school environment describe their ideals and perceptions of professional practice? And, (2) what do teachers have to say about this unique charter school environment and their experience working in it? The study employed multiple interviews with seven experienced educators. Using a modified interpretative phenomenological analysis approach, the researchers inductively analyzed teachers’ narratives. After inductive analysis, the teachers’ responses were considered in light of qualities reported to be associated with effective person-centered practice (therapy and teaching). These qualities included practitioner afforded conditions and teachers’ strategies for coping with a wide range of intra-personal, personal and organizational/contextual challenges. O estudo recorreu a diversas entrevistas feitas a sete educadores experientes.
