Abstract/Notes: Maria Montessori’s method is deservedly well-known in the child education field, where thebrilliant educationist successfully extended to normal children what she had experimented with subnormal ones. The applicative method in the “Children’s Homes”, destined to welcome children from three to six years of age, was later developed for very young children in the Montessori Birth Centres and for the slightly older children in primary school. Now, we wonder whether it also has interesting aspects for lower and upper secondary schools. Montessori indeed devised a complete course of development divided into four six-year periods, as Comenius had already done. She thus did not limit herself to childhood and wrote a book Dall’infanzia all’adolescenza which gives an affirmative answer to the question and provides some guidelines. But, especially her son, Mario Montessori, working in many courses on psychoarithmetic and psychogeometry, showed how the directive principles of the method are not only applicable, but are indeed very effective also for lower secondary schools. Mathematics offers particularly useful examples. But even the grammatical and logical analysis performed by affixing labels indicating the functions of various parts of the discourse, already started up in the Montessori method for primary schooling, both for Italian and foreign languages, may be extended to lower secondary schools. The abstract essence of the symbols take on a tangible feature without renouncing their conveyance of concepts. The education of preadolescents and adolescents is not, however, only intellectual. It is also an education for feelings, openness to social cooperation and character building. The broader range of Montessorian thought is felt in education for peace, meant as a world task. And, opening up to multiculturalism and combating every discrimination, it offers secondary education challenging perspectives. Thus, religious education, which in Spain and Italy Maria Montessori linked to Catholic education, may be extended in an ecumenical spirit also to other religions, such as the oriental ones that she got to know in India.

Abstract/Notes: Artikel ini mengkaji tentang sejarah munculnya metode montessori dan esensi metode montessori dalam pembelajaran anak usia dini. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa munculnya metode montessori bermula dari ketertarikan Montessori pada anak-anak idiot menjadikannya akrab dengan metode pendidikan khusus yang dirancang bagi anak-anak kecil. Selanjutnya metode khusus tersebut diterapkan kepada anak-anak normal. Adapun esensi metode montessori dalam pembelajaran anak usia dini adalah the absorbent mind, the conscious mind, the sensitive periods (sensitivity to order, sensitivity to language, sensitivity to walking, sensitivity to the social aspects of life, sensitivity to small objects, sensitivity learning through the senses), children want to learn, learning through play, stages of development, and encouraging independence. [This article examines the history of the emergence and essence of Montessori method Montessori methods in early childhood learning. The results showed that the appearance stems from the Montessori Method interest in children idiot making familiar with special education methods designed for small children. Furthermore, the specific methods applied to normal children. The essence of the method Montessori in early childhood learning is the absorbent mind, the conscious mind, the sensitive periods (sensitivity to order, sensitivity to language, sensitivity to walking, sensitivity to the social aspects of life, sensitivity to small objects, sensitivity learning through the senses), children want to learn, learning through play, stages of development, and encouraging independence.]

Abstract/Notes: The objective of this study is to investigate the Montessori teaching method to improve students’ interest, and to create outstanding young children who are independent, discipline, responsible, and creative by providing a type of learning system called Montessori. It is the learning approach types that provides attractive set of educational as materials and books, creative teachers and supporting environment. The investigation used the qualitative and observational methods. The sample for the study comprised 20 kindergarten pupils from Gifted Kids Montessori School located in Pontianak. The instruments that the writer used for collecting data were questionnaires, interviews, and the observations. Based on the study the writer concluded that kids (under age six) have intern desire to learn and explore, with the help of parent, peers way and environment which supporting they can achieve quality of learning well. This study offers suggestion to future researchers on alternative learning methods, especially for the parents of very young children. The findings of this research could be used as a model for learning other subjects.  Keywords:  Montessori, Learning, Teaching, Sensory
