Abstract/Notes: In recent years, educators and workforce experts have been seeing a consensus that the new generation needs the improved skills of the 21st century. Without these skills, it is thought that the new generation cannot successfully participate in the global economy and cannot be prepared enough for the university and business life. In this study, the effectiveness of Montessori Education Approach was evaluated in the acquisition of 21st century skills. An early childhood model proposal was developed by identifying the aspects of this education method, which began a century ago and continued to be developed until 1952, and which is still valid today, are similar to 21st century skills. The 21st century skills that the P21 platform categorized and divided into themes were based on. Matching expressions of 21st century skills and principles in Montessori education were examined. The findings obtained revealed a total of 963 matching expressions of the 21st century skills and the Montesoori education approach. The fact that the Montessori method, which cannot be widely used in our country due to its financial dimension, can be placed in the National Education pre-school education program, may be the correct model, and other modern education methods (Experiential education), High-Scope Regio-Emillia Sweden Program (Whariki) are evaluated and our education system It has been suggested that the most appropriate pre-school education model should be prepared urgently.

John Dewey - Biographic sources

Abstract/Notes: John Dewey was a pragmatist, progressivist, educator, philosopher, and social reformer (Gutek, 2014). Dewey's various roles greatly impacted education, and he was perhaps one of the most influential educational philosophers known to date (Theobald, 2009). Dewey's influence on education was evident in his theory about social learning; he believed that school should be representative of a social environment and that students learn best when in natural social settings (Flinders & Thornton, 2013). His ideas impacted education in another facet because he believed that students were all unique learners. He was a proponent of student interests driving teacher instruction (Dewey, 1938). With the current educational focus in the United States being on the implementation of the Common Core standards and passing standardized tests and state exams, finding evidence of John Dewey's theories in classrooms today can be problematic (Theobald, 2009). Education in most classrooms today is what Dewey would have described as a traditional classroom setting. He believed that traditional classroom settings were not developmentally appropriate for young learners (Dewey, 1938). Although schools, classrooms, and programs that support Dewey's theories are harder to find in this era of testing, there are some that still do exist. This paper will explore Responsive Classroom, Montessori Schools, Place-Based Education, and Philosophy for Children (P4C), all of which incorporate the theories of John Dewey into their curricular concepts.

Abstract/Notes: This study aimed to examine the opinions of Montessori educators on the digital assessment tool they use in terms of 21st-century teacher skills. The study sample covered 14 Montessori educators working in early childhood classes in public and private preschool educational institutions, located in Barcelona and Istanbul, where the Montessori educational approach is applied. In the study, the experiences of the Montessori educators with the digital assessment tool they use as the assessment tool were examined in terms of the identified 21st-century teacher skills. To this end, the research was designed with a phenomenological approach in the qualitative research method. The data were obtained through the personal information form and structured interview questions prepared for the digital assessment tool used by the Montessori educators. In the analysis of this data, the phenomenological study of Moustakas (1994) was introduced through the steps of the analysis. The perspectives of the Montessori educators concerning digital assessment, their application experiences regarding the digital assessment tool, and their views on their experiences were discussed in terms of utilization of the digital tool applications, as well as to use and evaluate information, their skills regarding collaborative work and communication, and finally their communication skills with the parents, which are among the 21st-century teacher skills. It was concluded that different factors influenced the opinions of the Montessori educators, where there were positive and negative expressions within the scope of these skills regarding the digital assessment tool.
