[In this work, the levels of adaptation, anxiety and self-esteem registered in 72 students from a traditional school and 65 from a Montessori school in the city of Puebla, between 9 and 12 years of age, are described and compared. Not having found statistically significant differences in the three variables studied between these two schools, it is possible to conclude that both adaptation, anxiety and self-esteem are phenomena determined by a multiplicity of internal factors (intelligence, personality, maturation, aptitudes, attitudes , among others.), and external (family, school, society, culture), which act interrelated. Likewise, the existing correlations between adaptation, anxiety and self-esteem are established. The factor analyzes applied to the three psychometric instruments used in this research are also described, since two were generated in Spain and another in the United States of America. It is recommended that, given the shortage of psychometric instruments built and validated in our country, research is promoted aimed at the production and dissemination of tests in Mexico, which will allow reliable and valid studies in the field of Psychology.]

Abstract/Notes: This study was undertaken to discover the effect of the Montessori Method on the cognitive tempo of 4–5-year-old children. Using an experimental pre-test–post-test paired control group design, the study sample included 60 children attending İhsan Doğramacı Applied Nursery School (affiliated to Selcuk University, Department of Health Sciences) in Konya during the 2015–2016 education year. The data of the study were collected using Kansas Reflection-Impulsivity Scale for Preschool – Form A. The tests were administered to children before and after the treatment and a follow-up test was administered to the treatment group six weeks following the completion of the treatment. The statistical analyses of the research data were done using Mann–Whitney U test and Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results of the study indicated that the Montessori Method decreases the number of errors and extends the reflection time among the preschool children in the treatment group.

Abstract/Notes: The aim of this research is to deeply investigate strategies for arousing curiosity in children in Montessori method acknowledged as a modern education approach. Based on this aim, study participants are composed of 10 female preschool teachers working in Montessori schools in Germany. Study data has been gathered according to qualitative research methods. In analysis of qualitative data, descriptive analysis method has been used. Data is obtained by the process that questions in semi-structured interview form developed by researcher have been asked to teachers. Open-ended questions have been posed to teachers in order to identify under which situations it is difficult/easy to arouse curiosity, which activities/topics are easy/difficult for arousing curiosity, and specific strategies for arousing curiosity in children. Study findings indicates that for arousing curiosity in children, Montessori teachers apply sensitive observation, prepared environment, free choice, special attention, attention polarisation-concentration and sensitive phases principles.
