Abstract/Notes: The Montessori method is a comprehensive, child-centered, developmentalist philosophy of education developed by Dr. Maria Montessori in Rome, Italy, in the early 1900s. The Montessori method differs from traditional approaches to education, and has had limited exposure in the U.S. until the last 20 years. Despite this growth, little research data exists on the effectiveness of the method or of parent understanding of the method. This research project attempted to determine parent understanding of the Montessori method of education at three Montessori schools in Massachusetts that educate children from toddlers to grade 8. The objective of the research was to design, implement, and analyze a survey that measured parent understanding of the Montessori principles and classroom practices. The survey was developed using the Montessori principles as the foundation. The goal was to determine both the extent of parent understanding of the Montessori principles and parent perception of how these principles are carried out in the Montessori classroom. Parents and guardians were asked a total of 10 questions, 7 of which were five-point Likert scales. The quantitative questions specifically addressed the six Montessori principles and were designed to test parents’ overall understanding of each principle. Responses ranged from a principle being not at all important to very important. The qualitative portion of the survey instrument utilized three open-ended, self-completed questions designed to reveal a range of parent perceptions about Montessori education and classroom practices. The surveys revealed that parent values and thinking do line up with some aspects of the Montessori method and philosophy. The surveys also revealed that parents seem to value classroom practices contrary to the founding principles. What parents value and what parents think about regarding concepts such as goal setting, achievement, competition with peers, and teachers preparing and presenting lessons is in direct contrast with some of the Montessori founding principles and intentions. If Montessori schools wish to remain viable, they will need to reconcile the Montessori principles with conflicting parent values and, further, determine how to better align their principles with parent views and desires for their children.

Abstract/Notes: The beginnings of the dissertation by Esther Grindel, holder of the Montessori diploma and former assistant at the Montessori Centre, also date back to this time. The survey analyses in an empirical way how and under which conditions highly gifted primary school children can learn according to their individual competencies and needs in the periods of Free Work, which is a characteristic way of learning in the Montessori Method. On the basis of four descriptive case studies of highly gifted students of a Montessori primary school typical structures of their ways of learning during the Montessori Free Work are investigated in a comparative analysis. The results, which are discussed in the context of current findings of the research on high abilities, are of great interest to both the Montessori schools and for the fostering at regular schools. Abstract/Notes: The present study is conducted to examine the effect of the Montessori method on kindergarten children's large muscle skills. The study group formed with 40 children who were between 36 and 60 months and going to Ihsan Dogramacı Implementation Kindergarten of Selcuk University, Faculty of Health Sciences, Konya during the 2014-2015 academic year. As data collection tool, the Large Muscle Skills Assessment Test (LMSAT) is used. The tests are applied to students before and after the experiment; they are applied again to experimental group ten weeks after the application of the program ended. Mann-Whitney- U Test and Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test were used in the analysis of the data obtained from the study. When the findings of the present study are examined and the pre-test and post-test score average of both experimental and control group children's gathered via Large Muscle Skills Assessment Test (LMSAT) is compared, a significant difference was found in favor of the experimental group. When experimental group children's Large Muscle Skills Assessment Test (LMSAT) post-test and test-retest score average results are compared there was no statistically meaningful difference. Depending on the findings it can be said that Montessori method affects kindergarten children's large muscle skills positively and is also more effective in terms of large muscle skills compared to the pre-School education program of the Ministry of Education. / Bu araştırma, Montessori yönteminin anaokulu çocuklarının büyük kas becerilerini etkisini incelemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Çalışma grubunda, 2014-2015 öğretim yılında Konya ilinde bulunan Selçuk Üniversitesi, Sağlık Bilimleri Fakültesi, İhsan Doğramacı Uygulama Anaokulu'nda okul öncesi eğitime devam eden (36- 60 ay arası) 40 çocuk yer almıştır. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak, Büyük Kas Becerilerini Ölçme Testi (BÜKBÖT) kullanılmıştır. Testler çocuklara deneme öncesi ve sonrasında uygulanmış; ayrıca deneme grubuna eğitim programı bitiminden on hafta sonra tekrar uygulanmıştır. Araştırmada elde edilen verilerin analizinde Mann Whitney – U Testi ve Wilcoxon İşaretli Sıralar Testi kullanılmıştır. Bulgular incelendiğinde, deneme ve kontrol grubu çocuklarının Büyük Kas Becerilerini Ölçme Testi (BÜKBÖT) sontest puan ortalamaları karşılaştırıldığında, deneme grubu lehine anlamlı bir farklılaşma bulunmuştur. Deneme grubu çocuklarının Büyük Kas Becerilerini Ölçme (BÜKBOT) Testi sontest ve izleme testi puan ortalamaları karşılaştırıldığında ise anlamlı bir farklılaşmanın bulunmadığı ortaya konulmuştur. Elde edilen bulgular doğrultusunda ulaşılan genel sonuç; Montessori yönteminin anaokulu çocuklarının büyük kas becerilerini olumlu yönde etkilediği ve MEB Okul Öncesi Eğitim Programı'na göre büyük kas becerileri acısından daha etkili olduğudur.

Abstract/Notes: Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menguji secara empiris perkembangan kemampuan membaca awal anak usia dini kelompok A RA Tunas Mulia Dua Malang. Jumlah subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah putra dan  putri kelompok A yang berjumlah 11 orang. Pengumpulan data melalui observasi, wawancara, dan pre-test dan post-test. Hipotesis   diuji menggunakan uji –t untuk melihat   perbedaan kemampuan  sebelum dan sesudah diberikan flashcard  flashcards, Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan Montessori flash playing cards memprediksi peningkatan kemampuan membaca awal anak kru A RA Tunas Mulia 2 Malang. Kontribusi signifikan kelompok eksperimen sebesar 4,37 dan kontribusi kelompok kontrol sebesar 0,64 terhadap peningkatan kemampuan membaca anak RA Tunas Mulia 2 Malang.
