[The scientific revolutions of the early decades of the Twentieth century challenged the principles of the classical paradigm of science and nature. Maria Montessori deeply understood these revolutions, and realized the need for a new paradigm, able to overcome the thinking by dichotomies (object/subject, mind/body, organism/environment, species/ecosystem, nature/culture, res cogitans/res extensa). She anticipated in her theory and in her pedagogical and social action the features of a relational, systemic and evolutionary epistemology, which would later have developed starting from the last decades of the century: an epistemology of complexity, within a planetary humanistic horizon. This is the epistemological and humanistic horizon in which, with courage and imagination, Maria Montessori introduced her idea of a "cosmic child" and "cosmic education", and in whose mirror today we can reinterpret and regenerate her idea.]

Abstract/Notes: The study takes advantage from the reconstruction of the cultural atmosphere widely characterizing the Early Twentieth Century for the powerful raising of spirituality. Among the modernist tendencies, the success of Theosophy took a relevant place in renewing contemporary feelings of religion and piety. Particularly, the essay highlights the relevance of the spiritual cenacle working at the Montesca House, where the first edition of the Montessori’s Method was accomplished. Theosophical characters also moved around this spiritual circle and some of them played a distinctive role in the first transfer of the Montessori’s system to France.

Abstract/Notes: The fascination with the Montessori Method stems from a never quite exhaustive analysis of her studies, which, due to the multiplicity and complexity of its elements, continually lend themselves to readings, hermeneutic interpretations and discoveries. Following a series of “clues” that see the figure of Maria Montessori intertwined with that of Anna Freud, this article intends to enhance the interdisciplinary interweaving and the multiple links which, by relating pedagogy with psychoanalysis, favor a broader vision of the implications relating to the changes occurring during the first half of the twentieth century, in which the child is the protagonist.

[Even if the Montessori method was not originally conceived for the teaching of foreign languages, we consider that its universal principles of training boys and girls can be applied equally to French as a foreign language class. The objective of the research was to initiate the non-readers of two preschool groups of the Saint Benedict School in the understanding of the story “Petit chat perdu” through the Montessorian principles. Regarding the methodology, a qualitative perspective was chosen. Two instruments were used: the interview and the observations of participants and non-participants. For data collection, an observation table and a field diary were used. The starting point was to extract useful contributions from Montessori theory for the French class. Subsequently, a pedagogical sequence that favors oral comprehension was put into practice with varied activities inspired by pedagogy while respecting the principles of theory. Lastly, the advantages and disadvantages of this adaptation were analyzed to initiate non-reader girls and boys in learning French as a foreign language.]
