Abstract/Notes: The aim of this study is to compare the math skills of children with and without Montessori education. A mixed design method was used in the research. Quantitative data were used to measure children's mathematical skills. Parents' views on early mathematics education were obtained by qualitative data collection method. The study group included 39 children who attended two different kindergartens with and without Montessori education for two years and their parents. Personal information form and the Early Mathematics Test (EMAT) were used to collect data. As a result that the educational institution they attend is effective in children's mathematics skills, it was found that, the mathematics skill scores of the children who received Montessori education were higher than those who did not receive Montessori education. It was determined that the age of the children's parents, education level of the parents and working status of mothers did not cause significant changes on the children's math scores. Parents of children attending both schools stated that they see mathematics as a part of daily life and that early mathematics achievements will affect both their whole life and their future academic achievements. It was observed that the parents mostly focused on counting skills. While some of the parents expressed skills such as sequencing, matching, and patterns, none of them responded to geometry. It has been concluded that the families adopting the Montessori education method see this education method as a tool for learning mathematics and guide their learning at home by interacting more with their teachers.

Abstract/Notes: The ultimate goal of Montessori educators is to prepare the child, the whole child. One who is not only excelling academically, but also is independent, a critical thinker, and can collaborate with people from all different walks of life. The role of the Montessori educators is to prepare and guide children to independence, this is an increasingly difficult goal to achieve independence and self-regulation especially in the three to six, and six to nine age group. The Montessori guides have grappled with the disconnect between the home environment and school environment, citing it as the major obstacle to children’s independence. In this paper, the literature about parent involvement and its impact on children independence and self-regulation in a Montessori classroom are reviewed. This paper explains the research tools that were employed throughout the research period as well as the methodology, and findings and conclusions.

In didactics of mathematics, various studies have been carried in order to improve the teaching-learning process; an alternative school system such as the Montessori method, it has strong socio-emotional and academic results in children, it has not changed for more than a century practically, it can be applied in all years of primary and secondary education. Abstract/Notes: The article focuses on the first part of the atypical path of Helene Lubienska de Lenval (1895-1972), an educationalist without formal qualifications: from her early collaboration and breake with Maria Montessori, to a personal interpretation and integration of the Montessori method, which she would later pass on to thousands of French teachers through her many different contributions. The A. goes beyond the apparent simplicity of Lubienska’s practice by analyzing the wealth of her contributions – which were inspired, among other things, by the Christian liturgy. The article explores the reasons for the lack of recognition during her life, despite her dense and diversified literary output and her novel pedagogical approach.
