Abstract/Notes: This thesis begins by proposing that all five classical canons are an ideal theory for guiding any writing pedagogy. The majority of the thesis, then, details how Montessori writing instruction synergistically exploits these canons to create a powerful pedagogy. Devised by Maria Montessori in the late 1800s, her instruction displays standard and nonstandard applications of invention, arrangement, style, memory, and delivery. Because Montessori writing instruction begins in preschool, this thesis concludes with an exploration of the potential benefits of introducing a classical curriculum before college. Abstract/Notes: Bu araştırmada, Montessori yaklaşımı doğrultusunda gerçekleştirilen öğretmen eğitimi ve eğitim ortamının düzenlenmesi sonucu üç, dört ve beş yaş (36-72 ay) grubundaki (deney ve kontrol grubu) çocuklara verilen Montessori yaklaşımına dayalı eğitimin çocukların gelişim alanları üzerindeki etkisini saptamak amaçlanmıştır. / The present study was aimed at determining the development levels of children aged three, four and five (36-72 months) attending Ankara University Practice Preschool 1, and the effect of Montessori educational approach on their areas of development. A pretest, posttest, retention test experimental design with control group was adopted in the study to determine the effect of Montessori educational approach on children’s areas of development. The experimental group consisted of children attending Ankara University Practice Preschool 1, while the control group consisted of attending a randomly selected university preschool with similar qualifications. The General Information Form was used for data collection purposes, while the Developmental Profile 3 (DP-3) developed by Alpern (2007) and the Developmental Indicators for the Assessment of Learning 4 (DIAL-4) developed by Mardell and Goldenberg (1998) whose validity and reliability studies were used as assessment tools to evaluate children’s areas of development. Prior to the implementation of Montessori education, Montessori educational environment was prepared and a developmental assessment laboratory was set up. Thereafter, teachers received the Montessori Practitioner Training. DIAL-4 results according to teachers’ opinions revealed significant differences between the children in experimental and control groups in self-help skills and social emotional development subscale scores, while according to parents’ opinions, there were significant differences in the self-help skills subcale and overall development scores. DP-3 results revealed significant differences between the children in experimental and control groups in the adaptive behavior subscale according to teachers’ opinions, and physical development, cognitive development and communication subscale scores, as well as, overall development scores of the DP-3 according to parents’ opinions.

Abstract/Notes: The ultimate goal of Montessori educators is to prepare the child, the whole child. One who is not only excelling academically, but also is independent, a critical thinker, and can collaborate with people from all different walks of life. The role of the Montessori educators is to prepare and guide children to independence, this is an increasingly difficult goal to achieve independence and self-regulation especially in the three to six, and six to nine age group. The Montessori guides have grappled with the disconnect between the home environment and school environment, citing it as the major obstacle to children’s independence. In this paper, the literature about parent involvement and its impact on children independence and self-regulation in a Montessori classroom are reviewed. This paper explains the research tools that were employed throughout the research period as well as the methodology, and findings and conclusions.

For this purpose, this research conducted with 30 pre-kindergartens were trained according to the Montessori Method, and 31 pre-school children from a kindergarten were trained according to the MoNE Program in Konya. The research is semi-experimental study based on pre-test and post-test models with experimental and control groups. ''Selçuk Peer Relations Rating Scale'' and ''Challenging Situation Test'' were used as data collection tools in the research. Data obtained from the study were analyzed with SPSS 17.0 program. As a result of this study, according to Selçuk Peer Relations Rating Scale, it has seen that the problem solving skills of the experimental group children are lower than the control group children in the posttests. In the pretest and posttest comparisons of the children in the experimental group, the problem solving abilities decreased in the posttest. The control group showed that the children 's attenuation levels increased in the posttest, and the problem solving skills pretest scores increased significantly in the posttest. According to posttest scores of Challenging Situation Test, second case, the control group children reacted more prosocial and the children in the experimental group reacted more avoidant. Third case, children who prefer the sad emotional reaction expected in the pre-test were seen to prefer angry and neutral response in the post-test.

Abstract/Notes: The issue of correct practice (i.e., according to Henri Louis Go, practice that reflects the spirit and letter of a pedagogy), concerns every pedagogue, and Maria Montessori certainly took correct practice very seriously from the outset. Indeed, her emphasis on this crucial issue explains some of the strategic choices she made, as well as the ways she promoted her method abroad, and the relationships she maintained with her contemporaries (analyzed here via the early years of the journal Pour l’Ère nouvelle). These all led to accusations of dogmatism or pedagogical orthodoxy that continue to be leveled at the Montessori network today. This article sets out to explore the controversy surrounding the issue of correct practice in the field of pedagogy, taking Montessori as its example. Focusing on the 1920s, it considers the questions raised by attempts to protect a life’s work within a heterogeneous array of philosophical and political practices and positions. It also explores the reticence that some of Montessori’s contemporaries (particularly Decroly and Ferrière) showednot toward her pedagogy per se, but toward the way she conceived of and applied this pedagogy.
